PURPOSE
 
Must be capable of developing applications from concept to completion with no supervision. 
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
 
  • Design and write codes for new applications.
  • Use life cycle development steps, analysis, design, code, test implement and support to produce results.
  • Review, analyze and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and documenting programs.
  • Design, modify, develop and implement software packages and implement software programming applications.
  • Troubleshoot issues with existing or developed systems and work with the appropriate resources to resolve them.
  • Troubleshoot and support third party software products as required.
  • Develop, implement and maintain web-based application systems.
  • Has a detailed knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within a particular field.
  • Isolate and correct complex software problems and/or side effects from interactions between packages.
  • Develop and design interfaces, front pages and the tools needed to navigate web sites.
  • Review specifications and provide time estimates on the development of projects and features.
  • Review supplied procedures and offer solutions and enhancements.
  • Review, analyze and evaluate business systems and user needs.
  • Manage multiple projects and insure projects are being completed on a timely basis.
  • Determine best tools to achieve requested tasks.
  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures.
  • Provide direction in new and existing technologies relevant to the company’s business information requirements.
  • Create technical documentation as required.
  • Prepare functional specifications for enhancements and other development work.
  • Provide an effective communication link between end users and technical development staff.
  • Write detailed description of user needs, program functions and steps required to develop or modify computer programs.
  • Gathers requirements from users and creates specifications and develops codes.
  • Provide technical assistance and training as needed on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with Administration support and Administration training as required.
  • Provide ongoing training to internal customers and training for external customers when required.
  • Provide accurate and reliable status to management when requested.
  • Develop training plans, training materials and deliver training for end users and IT personnel.
  • Participate in hardware and software evaluation.
  • Communicate with hardware and software vendors at a technical level.
  • Supervise other IT staff on a project by project basis.
  • Assist in budgeting of services and applications.
  • Approve purchase of software or software products as recommended.
  • Support periodic or one off Corporate projects as required (e.g. physical inventory).
  • Support and participate in all and any cross training opportunities.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
 
  • Office based position  with little to no physical demands.
  • Regular working hours are based on the Corporate flex time policy and are agreed at three month intervals.
  • This position should expect to work on demand in non-working hours when required by specific projects or on on-call scenarios.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Associates degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5 + years of work in a development environment.
  • 2-3 years PC hardware/software experience.
  • Experience in a manufacturing and/or distribution environment preferred.
  • 2+ years SMC Business knowledge as an employee or consultant.
  • Capable of estimating projects within a specific application.
  • An experienced project leader a plus and a high level of customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills written and verbal
