Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Asset Protection Control Room Guard to join our Asset Protection team reporting to the Asset Protection Supervisor.   
 
Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
 
The Asset Protection Control Room Guard is accountable for day to day security operations at the Detour Lake Mine and off-site properties when required.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your responsibilities will include:​​​
 
  • Completion of daily video surveillance, surveillance reviews and dispatch duties;
  • Access control monitoring and coordinating employees entering/leaving the mine site and or high security areas, utilizing access control and visitor management software;
  • Responsible for security of production related areas and product movement, including safeguarding mining assets, including both physical and intellectual property all while safeguarding the physical safety of all personnel;
  • Oversee and/or conduct searches of persons, property and coordinating onsite investigations as required;
  • Completion of detailed daily notes and completion of thorough incident reports;
  • Assist in Security execution operations, coordinate and respond to all site-based emergencies, organize, and/or conduct off-site medical transport as required;
  • Aid in the prevention of theft, vandalism, trespassing and any other actions that may disrupt the safe and secure operation of the mine site;
  • Contribute to the implementation, compilation, and review of security-related documents;
  • Assist and train contractors involved in Security execution activities are competent and that they understand the purpose and functionality of all critical controls relevant to their work;
  • Wildlife management through the utilization of deterrent devices;
  • Administrative duties including but not limited to all related daily documentation;
  • Monitor security policies, programs, or procedures to ensure compliance with internal security policies, licensing requirements, or applicable government security requirements, policies, and directives;
  • Ability to liaison with local authorities and outside agencies as required;
  • Maintain compliance of all security processes and procedures;
  • Water rescue response, initialization of search and rescue and operation of a pleasure craft vehicle;
  • Conducting additional security related tasks and investigations as directed by Kirkland Lake Gold Asset Protection Management.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Our ideal candidate has:
 
  • A valid Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Issued Security Guard License;
  • A degree, diploma or certificate in Police Foundations, Law and Security Administration or a related program is an asset;
  • Police/Security training at an accredited institution with a minimum of 2 to 5 years’ progressive experience in a security or police related role is essential. Prior law enforcement, military or intelligence background an asset;
  • Advance knowledge in investigations, interviewing and report writing is essential;
  • Knowledge of Mining/process environment is an asset;
  • Advanced MS Suite skills, MS Office skillset and PC based competency mandatory;
  • Strong communication skills in daily interactions and ability to formally present ideas to direct Supervision;
  • Sound analytical and evaluation skills. Articulate and able to communicate security-related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff with diverse backgrounds;
  • Influential, with strong negotiation skills;
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace;
  • Certified Protection Officer(CPO) designation, or willingness to obtain;
  • Continued education in relevant field of study mandatory in order to maintain CPO designation;
  • Possess a valid Ontario Pleasure Craft license;
  • Possess a valid Possession & Acquisition license (PAL);
  • Wicklander-Zulawski interviewing techniques training and background considered an asset.

The Core Technician will be responsible to support the Geology departments by processing and sampling/cutting of diamond drill core. 

ASSAYER 1

The Assayer 1 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

MINE PLANNER/EIT

The Mine Planner/EIT will be responsible for mine planning within the 3 - 6 month planning interval. 

ASSAYER 2

The Assayer 2 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

The Assayer 3 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.
