The Assistant Cook is responsible for menu planning, purchasing of groceries and supplies and daily preparation of nutritious meals and snacks served to the children, staff, and families enrolled in the program /or attending Child & Family Early ON programming. The kitchen is to be managed and the work of the Assistant Cook is to be conducted in strict compliance with public health, CCEYA and all other applicable legislation. The Assistant Cook works in consultation with the Centre Director & Head Cook to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen and its coordination with programs and services.
 
Key Objectives
 
  • Advance planning of lunch menus and snacks in accordance with the Canada Food Guide; posting of menus for parents and staff
  • Conduct housekeeping tasks necessary to maintain the kitchen in an organized, clean, safe and hygienic condition at all times
  • Deliver and collect lunch/snack trays to/from all on-site programs
  • Complete clean up after each meal (i.e. dishes, countertops, etc.)
  • Meets with Health Inspector as required to ensure kitchen and practices are in compliance with health code.
  • Regular inventory of kitchen equipment and supplies
 
Qualifications
 
• Highschool diploma or Equivalency
• Experience as a Cook, preferably in a child care setting
• Proven ability to speak/learn Anishinaabemowin, by mastering the 20 phrases – hiring pre-requisites for all positions at Enji Maajtaawaad Early Years
• Safe Food Handling Certificate
• Must have a valid Driver License and liability insurance
• Familiarity with planning and implementing menu’s around the Canada Food Guide
• Valid First Aid/CPR Level C
 
*The successful candidate will be required to submit a clear Vulnerable Sector Police Record (Level 3) as a condition of employment.
