- Drug test
- Responsible for organizing and maintaining all shaft access areas
- Ensure conveyance is in good repair and all mechanisms are operating properly
- Assist in the performance daily and weekly checks as laid out by mine and government legislation and assist in maintaining pertinent documents.
- Ensure communications such as shaft signals and radios are in good working order
- Ensure all emergency equipment is available and operating correctly
- Ensure all personnel act in an orderly and non-disruptive fashion
- Ensure all rigging material used is inspected and in good condition
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and control equipment damage
- Must be familiar with shaft signals, cage chairing, cage weight restrictions and limits, proper loading and handling procedures, emergency procedures
- Must comply with the cage tending procedures, chapter 14 of the Redpath Underground Safety Rules and Regulations booklet, and site specific requirements.
- Maintains working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
- The duties and responsibilities listed above are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all inclusive
- Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (or other provincial equivalent)
- Specialty Module U0083 (or other provincial equivalent)
- Relevant experience in cage operation
- Must be competent in the operation of conveyances and the signaling systems
- Must be familiar with basic shaft operations
- Ability to multi task and work effectively
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor
- Responsible for the use and maintenance of all safety equipment used in the shaft environment, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
- Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.
- Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the primary role of the Truck Driver is to haul and dump broken ore and waste from development or production headings.
Under the supervision of the Superintendent, the primary role of the Shift Supervisor is to coordinate the daily activities of the mine development according to plan and is completed to standards.
Under the supervision of the Lead Miner and/or Shift Supervisor, the primary role of Miner is to inspect existing underground headings, scale loose rocks and install ground support to stabilize rock mass and ensure safety.
Under the supervision of the Lead Mechanic, the primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment.
Under the supervision of the Mechanical Supervisor and/or Underground Superintendent, the primary role of the Lead Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment.
Under the supervision of Superintendent, the primary role of the lead electrician is to install, wire, maintain & perform preventive maintenance and repairs to electric equipment in surface and underground areas.
Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the primary role of a Jumbo Operator is to set up and operate a two-boom Sandvik jumbo to drill and blast in a safe manner.
Under the supervision of the Superintendent/ Shift Supervisor, the primary role of a Cage Tender is operate mineshaft conveyances which may include skips and/or cages and other devices that are used to move workers and material within the mine shaft safely.
