- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in shaft or shaft sinking operations
- Completion of rigging and fall arrest/restraint training
- Experience with all warning lights at the collar location
- Responsible for organizing and maintaining all shaft access areas
- Ensure conveyance is in good repair and all mechanisms are operating properly
- Assist in the performance daily and weekly checks as laid out by mine and government legislation and assist in maintaining pertinent documents.
- Ensure communications such as shaft signals and radios are in good working order
- Ensure all emergency equipment is available and operating correctly
- Ensure all rigging material used is inspected and in good condition
- Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner. Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and control equipment damage
- Must be familiar with shaft signals, cage chairing, cage weight restrictions and limits, proper loading and handling procedures, emergency procedures
- Must comply with the cage tending procedures, chapter 14 of the Redpath Underground Safety Rules and Regulations booklet, and site specific requirements.
- Maintains working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition
- Operating shaft doors, conveyor belts or chutes that control the flow of material at the collar location and dump
- Sling gear baskets and other various equipment
- Handle explosives
- Maintain slings and lifting attachments
- Maintain supply storage such as explosives, drill bits, fire extinguishers and batteries
- Operate surface equipment i.e. forklift, loader and tugger

- Speciality Module U0083 (or other provincial equivalent)
- Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
- Following Company health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions to Supervisor
- Responsible for the use of all safety equipment, i.e.Lanyards, warning signs and labeling, according to company rules and applicable legislation.
- Responsible to ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.
Under the supervision of the Maintenance Superintendent and/or the Project Manager, the primary role of the Mechanical Foreman is the direct supervision the underground and surface mechanical personnel to ensure that all mobile and fixed equipment is maintained, repaired and functioning according to project requirements and safety standards.
The primary role of the Mechanic is to perform preventive maintenance and repairs to diesel, electrical, hydraulic and air operated equipment.
Under the supervision of the Superintendent/ Shift Supervisor, the primary role of a Cagetender is operate mineshaft conveyances which may include skips and/or cages and other devices that are used to move workers and material within the mine shaft safely.
