Mt. Milligan is currently seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Drill and Blast Supervisor to join our growing Operations team. Reporting to the Mine Operations Superintendent, the Drill and Blast Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the Drill and Blast team.
 
DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
  • Promotes a positive safety culture with a target for zero incidents and accidents
  • Coordinates drill and blast activities and oversees drill and shovel moves
  • Understands specifications, drawings, and survey staking and is able to translate and communicate this information into the field
  • Plans for team and individual results and delegates accordingly
  • Provides effective leadership to build a strong employee culture
  • Responds to particular situations and people to ensure best practices are being employed
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement initiatives of the department
  • Ensures a high level of quality and production standards
  • Establishes the most efficient use of resources in order to reach target / goals
  • Encourages and develops employee skill levels
  • Leads with integrity and demonstrates good work ethics
  • Reports any problems or unforeseen issues that could affect the plan to the superintendent
  • Ensures the crews and lead hands have correct information to perform their duties
 
SKILLS / EXPERIENCE
 
  • Minimum of 5 years drill and blast experience or 8 years experience in open-pit mining
  • Supervisory experience required
  • Possess a current British Columbia Shift Boss Certification or ability to obtain
  • Possess a current Worksafe BC Blasting Certificate or ability to obtain
  • Will also consider post-graduate Engineers with open pit mining experience
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the mechanical aspects of the drills
  • Electric drill knowledge is preferred
  • In depth knowledge of all rules and regulations regarding drilling and blasting
  • Complete understanding of all technical blasting requirements
  • Strong commitment to health and safety on the worksite
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (ie. Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Self-motivated team player with a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain motivation of crews
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly changing priorities
