Wesdome Gold Mines has had over 30 years of continuous gold mining operations in Canada. The Company is 100% Canadian focused with a pipeline of projects in various stages of development. The Company’s strategy is to build Canada’s next intermediate gold producer, producing 200,000+ ounces from two mines in Ontario and Quebec. The Eagle River Complex in Wawa, Ontario is currently producing gold the Eagle River Underground Mine. Wesdome is actively exploring its brownfields asset, the Kiena Complex in Val d’Or, Quebec. The Kiena Complex is a fully permitted former mine with a 930-metre shaft and 2,000 tonne-per-day mill. The Company trades on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol “WDO”.
Responsibilities / Job Duties Performed
The Chief Mine Geologist will be responsible and accountable for all work conducted by the Geology Department while ensuring the work is safe, cost effective and makes the most efficient use of manpower and materials.
• You will be responsible for the supervision of production geologists and the day-to-day activities and processes around definition drilling (ie; planning, tracking, core logging and interpretation).
• Lead and assist in the planning and execution of mapping, sampling, and grade control practices.
• Have a good background in grade control, geology database management, structural mapping, interpretation, and 3D modeling.
• You will provide support in the estimation of mineral resources for the operations at our Eagle River Mine.
Responsibilities
• Promote and lead a culture of safe work practices.
• Comply with federal and provincial acts, regulations, and legal requirements.
• Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
• Prepare annual goals and objectives, operating capital, and manpower budgets.
• Supervise and give general direction to the Senior Geologists to ensure the drill hole and grade control programs are optimized and on budget.
• Responsible for establishing exploration targets, setting drill priorities to ensure delineation drilling programs secure ongoing supply of mineable ore reserves.
• Responsible for negotiating diamond drilling contracts, monitors and ensures drilling performance is acceptable and that all contractual obligations are being met.
• Participate in the preparation of quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and long-term strategic business planning.
• Supervise and gives direction to the Underground Geologists to ensure timely and accurate resource reporting and modeling.
• Initiate training programs as required to upgrade employee skills and manage the department talent to ensure there is a succession plan.
Qualifications
• Registered Professional Geologist of Ontario (P.Geo) B. Sc. in Geology or tertiary education in Geology with 15-20+ years’ experience.
• Datamine, Deswik and other modeling and geostatistical software user, complete regular geological and grade wireframes for specified projects.
• Ability to analyze and perform reconciliation between short and long-term models.
• Progressive underground experience having worked as a production and/or grade control geologist.
• Have excellent written and verbal communication skills with all levels of the operation.
• Effective leader with the ability to build a strong team culture.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Work Conditions
• This position is located at our Eagle River Mine location near Wawa, ON.
• In this role, you will work a 4-3 schedule and therefore you will be accommodated in our camp with all the amenities.
