Subject Matter Expert – Disability Management

Collège Boréal is looking for a subject matter expert with a background in disability services management, human resources, or other fields related to workplace support and accommodation services, in order to develop the content of the following two courses that will be offered online: 
 
Disability Management I
 
Course description: In this course, students will learn the theories, principles and practices related to disability management. They will analyze the key components of a disability program; its economic, social, and psychological benefits; and the strategic planning approach in implementing one. Subjects covered will include: best practices, roles and functions of professionals in relation to disability management, agencies and community services offered, organizational costs and mitigation strategies, as well as the identification of barriers and the selection of best practices. 
 
Disability Management II
 
Course description: In this course, students will learn about the return-to-work process and case management, including the roles and functions of multidisciplinary health care providers in case management. Students will be exposed to all aspects of safe and timely return-to-work strategies for both injured workers and new workers whose integration into the workplace is the result of a workplace accommodation. In addition, systemic barriers to employment, job modification, accommodation, workplace restructuring, and best practices related to assistive technology are addressed. Students will explore the future of accommodation and accessibility and the medical and social models of disability management.
 
Functions:
 
Work closely with instructional design consultants to:
 
  • design, review, and implement varied and motivating learning activities and assessment strategies in line with student needs and knowledge building;
  • develop and write course content according to effective pedagogical approaches for online teaching;
  • Identify, select and target resources and information for use in the courses and in the development of activities;
  • Ensure that the activities and educational content meet program standards.
 
Requirements:
 
  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources with a specialization in Health and Safety, Rehabilitation and Disability management diploma or any other degree in a related field;
  • 5 years of experience in the field such as working with disability management companies (Great-West Life, Manulife, Sun Life Financial, etc.);
  • Teaching experience would be an asset;
  • An excellent command of spoken and written English;
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), e-mail and Internet.
