We are currently looking for a Controls and Systems Engineering Manager to join our Underground Drills Engineering Team in Sudbury, Ontario.
 
Job Overview
 
The Controls and Systems Engineering Manager, Undreground Drills is responsible to ensure the systems design for underground drills meets safety, quality and cost standards while driving continuous improvement as part of a global business intergrated engineering team.
 
Responsibilities
 
  • Drive the continuous improvement of controls system strategy and execution.
  • Participate in New Product Development projects from initiation, concepting through entire project life cycle.
  • Prioritize, schedule and delegate work assignments, and directly supervise day-to-day controls, electrical and hydraulic systems design and integration to ensure the achievement of design quality, cost and innovation objectives.
  • Ensures that technical drawings and specifications of control, electrical and hydraulic systems meet company standards and provide sufficient detail to allow purchasing and machine build operations to successfully source and build machines on time, on budget and to customer specification.
  • Leader and key contact for technical information and engineering design on controls, electrical and hydraulic systems for underground drilling products.
  • Aids in the trial run of programmed machine and equipment operation to verify that all programs, communications and overall functionality conform to specifications
  • Support sales, product management and aftermarket with technical detail and design cost estimates.
  • Support service to resolve product design field issues.
  • As a member of engineering management team, provide input and feedback to improve processes and designs.
  • Design and develop products and systems, standard and prototype for assigned product line or systems within budgets and timelines.
 
Education / Qualification
 
  • College or university education in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering with applicable experience;
  • 5 or more years’ experience with controls, automation and electrical systems design and integration;
  • 5 or more years’ experience with design heavy mobile equipment;
  • Familiar with ISO, ANSI, CSA and other country specific electrical safety regulations as required;
  • Knowledge of electric circuit boards, processors, chips, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming;
  • Expert understanding of hydraulic and electrical system design (high and low voltage);
  • Experience with product design integration of automation and battery systems;
  • Experience in software programming (‘C’, CoDeSys, LabView, Matlab, Danfoss Plus+1, Parker IQAN) in embedded systems, desired;
  • Fully competent with CAD design, preferably Solidworks and AutoCAD, Automation Studio, Microsoft Office;
  • Good understanding of manufacturing processes and Bill of Materials, MRP systems;
  • Strong business acumen;
  • Experienced with project management methodologies and systems;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, high attention to detail and time management;

Engineering Manager, Underground Drills
  • Direct a harmonized strategy for the engineering team through new product development projects and current product design support.
  • Manage a team of 5 to 15 design engineers including coaching and development, formal performance management and recruitment of new resources.
Product Manager - Underground Drills
  • Provides training and education on the product range, product application, assisting with the compilation of tender documentation, pricing strategies, and the supply of marketing material to support sales efforts.
  • Initiate and execute on VOC initiatives for product development, continuous improvement and general market research.
