Under the Direct Supervision of the Band Representative, the Cultural Support Worker is responsible for promoting and ensuring that families receiving child welfare services are delivered in a manner which is both respectful of and congruent with the culture of Constance Lake First Nation. In addition, this position shall act as a cultural resource to First Nation staff in order to facilitate enhanced knowledge and awareness with respect to cultural values, beliefs, traditions and perspectives relative to the First Nation. This position is a full-time term position ending March 31, 2021 with a possible extension pending funding availability.
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
 
• Minimum 3 years of working in Child Welfare Field
• Knowledge of Child Welfare Proceedings and Process
• Strong Knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA)
• Experience in working with First Nations and Communities is an asset
• Strong Problem-solving Skills
• Understand the importance of Confidentiality
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and writing
• Demonstrate ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
• Proficient in using Microsoft Office
• On-going commitment to upgrading knowledge and skills in the areas of traditional and cultural healing services and contemporary clinical models
• Willingness and ability to support both traditional and contemporary healing practices
• Experience in working with elders, healers and helpers
• Possess valid “G” Ontario Driver’s License
• Will be subject to undergo a Drug and/or Alcohol test prior to being hired and pass the test
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
• Ensure confidentiality to its fullest
• Ensure the provision of fair, equitable, respectful and culturally relevant service to our children and families;
• Ensure that children in care receive appropriate cultural programming,
• Participates with relevant communities to explore options and strategies to address issues affecting First Nations children and families;
• Facilitates cultural awareness through induction and orientation processes and a variety of
ongoing learning and development initiatives;
• Builds and maintains effective relationships with elders and aboriginal healers;
• Acts as a resource and provides information to ensure that cultural knowledge and practices are understood and maintained;
• Facilitates and organizes cultural workshops, healing circles and spiritual gatherings for families
• Ensures that community members are aware of the availability of cultural services;
• Promotes cultural competency and sensitivity with other communities and child welfare agencies
• Participate in Talking and Sharing Circles as support for our families
• Perform other related duties when requested.

Cultural Support Band Representative

Community Support Band Representative

Under the direct supervision of the Community Band Representative, Constance Lake First Nation requires a Community Support Band Representative for Child Welfare to advocate/represent registered/affiliated with First Nation members that are involved with any/all Child Welfare Agencies throughout Canada. 

Band Representative Office Assistant

Under the direct Supervision of the Community Band Representative, the Band Representative Assistant will provide assistance to the Band Representative Program in prevention, intervention awareness and administrative services to the community members of Constance Lake First Nation.
