Data Management Technician

- Updating and maintaining natural resource GIS and database records by: implementing standard information, data collection, and editing processes and procedures; overseeing and undertaking the collection and transfer of resource data; ensuring and verifying the quality and integrity of data collected; working with Lands, Resources and other MFN staff in collecting and assembling data for loading and/or digitizing; spatial and tabular editing of resource information; and ensuring compliance with MFN data standards within the local context.
- Providing MFN GIS products and services, in order to support MFN projects by: performing data analysis, geo-processing and queries; creating information products including maps, reports and tabular summaries for Fish & Wildlife, Forestry, Land Management, Recreational and Protected
- Areas and community infrastructure data management systems.
- Supporting MFN information management needs for non-spatial data through appropriate data and information management practices in support of MFN Lands and Resources direction and policies;
- Participating in field surveys/team projects in support of field data collection, lands management on all natural resources , verification and processing activities; community infrastructure in water lines, fire hydrants, hydro lines, capital assets, roads management (ASETS)
- Secondary or Post-Secondary Diploma in Lands, Forestry, Waters or Environmental Management fields or other related training in Geographic Information Systems/Data Entry Autocad and experience working in the outdoors and remote locations.
- Knowledge and understanding of Mississauga First Nation Lands, Resources and Community Infrastructure
- Knowledge and understanding of Mississauga First Nation traditions & culture
- Knowledge of Mississauga First Nation Land Code and First Nations Lands Management Act
- Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and concerns within Mississauga First Nation lands
- Knowledge of protocols involved when gathering Aboriginal Traditional Knowledge (ATK)
- Knowledge of MFN’s Lands and Resources management programs, legislation, regulation and related policies, directives, guidelines and procedures in order to maintain database records and manage data collection, data input, analysis and data transfer appropriately and assist in field operations.
- Working knowledge or experience of GIS applications, concepts, including using ArcGIS, and other specialized software applications (e.g. spatial, analytical techniques) to provide on-site GIS user support and to develop standard and specialized map and information products that meet MFN standards (e.g. Cartographic, information management, security) or similar software.
- Knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking systems and protocols to assist in testing, trouble-shooting, supporting and maintaining GIS, software, databases and data.
- Knowledge of office software applications (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) in support of communications, reporting, presentations and training.
Assist in enforcing rules and regulations of recreational facility and to assist in maintaining discipline and ensure safety of customers.
Mississauga First Nation is developing a Debaakinagewin Circle, a group of community who will utilize Anishinaabe principles of justice to make decisions about criminal diversion, administrative appeals, governance, and conduct mediation.
Under the direction of the Lands and Resources Manager and the Infrastructure Director, the Lands and Resources/ Data Management Technician will provide technical expertise in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Data Management support services (i.e. data entry, editing, manipulation and quality control), information product generation (including maps, queries, geo-processing, tabular summaries and reports), to Mississauga First Nation.
Provide effective programming client-based services related to family violence to assist clients in peer counselling, accessing services, advocacy, crisis intervention and referrals to engage community and staff.
Receive all incoming telephone calls and visits in person and to direct all inquiries and persons appropriately and with courtesy.
Provide support, education and encouragement to families in order to facilitate positive parent-child relationships, stimulate child development and promote healthy lifestyles.
