Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Water Resource Engineer to join our Major Capital and Infrastructure team, reporting to the TMA Manager.
 
Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
 
The Water Resource Engineer will be responsible for the management of the site water balance and assessment of Mine Operations impacts on surface and groundwater regimes as well as contributing to the effective planning, development and sustainable use of water sources.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your responsibilities will include:​​​
 
  • Produce, properly document and clearly communicate realistic workable dewatering plan schedules in a timely manner;
  • Prepare weekly and/or monthly sequences for water infrastructure management as required by site production personnel;
  • Design, direct and review site water management plans;
  • Optimize plans and schedules for dewatering operations to minimize risk;
  • Inform stakeholders upstream and downstream of plans, recommendations, and requirements to ensure related calculations are correct;
  • Manage day-to-day planning activities, considering monthly, yearly and long-term water management and production plans;
  • Determine and evaluate resources and resource scheduling to meet present and future targets;
  • Help prepare and implement dewatering plans for the pit;
  • Continually strive for improvements in current operational efficiencies and mining strategies;
  • Input to the annual budget process and monthly forecasting.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Our ideal candidate has:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geological or Environmental Engineering with specialization in water resource management;
  • Professional Engineer Designation;
  • Minimum 5 years of open pit experience;
  • Working knowledge of mine dewatering equipment and planning;
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite;
  • Good work ethic and strong attitude towards safety.
