PROJECTS COST ACCOUNTANT

Based at the Canadian Operations Centre, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Projects Cost Accountant to join our team.
 
The Projects Cost Accountant is responsible for providing project cost control support for the project and management teams. The position will be an integral part of the project team and will work closely with both the site and regional project team to monitor, track, coordinate and report on project costs, controls, and progress throughout all phases of the project.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
 
Your responsibilities will include:
 
  • Work with the project managers to establish the work breakdown structure of each project;
  • Prepare and maintain detailed project cost tracking sheets in liaison with the project managers, also including project KPI’s and scheduling metrics;
  • Maintain budget/forecast/AFE tracking log (cost to date, cost to complete, status, progress, commitments, budget, forecast, etc.) in liaison with mine accountants;
  • Investigate and provide commentaries for cost and schedule deviations from original estimate, forecast, budget and AFE with project managers and identify potential areas of concern;
  • Maintain the change management and contingency tracking log for approved scope changes and contingency usage;
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual project budget and interim project forecasts including KPI’s and detailed cost breakdowns of each project;
  • Collect detailed cost information from multiple sources to facilitate the preparation of the weekly and monthly project review reports;
  • Assist with the development of an integrated cost management system for project control and reporting;
  • Ensure continuous process improvements and best practices are applied within the project cost accounting area through all phases of the project;
  • Work closely with the project contract administrator and accounts payable department to monitor and improve processes related to commitments, purchase orders and outstanding invoices;
  • Ensure compliance with company policy and accounting standards;
  • Other duties as required.
 
QUALIFICATIONS 
 
Our ideal candidate has:​​​
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline (Business, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, etc.);
  • Minimum of five years’ of relevant experience;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills;
  • Experience with SAP is considered a strong asset;
  • Strong ability to influence and lead change;
  • Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic and growing company;
  • Strong teamwork skills, organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize assignments;
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
