Position: Director, Sustainability         
 
Reports to: Vice President, Sustainability & External Affairs  
 
Role Overview: The Director, Sustainability is responsible for supporting and executing Alamos’ company-wide sustainability strategy with a focus on environmental aspects including, regulatory compliance, environmental permitting as well as stakeholder and community engagement.
 
Primary Responsibilities:         
 
  • Provide technical expertise and support for a variety of environmental initiatives related to mine operations;
  • Lead and/or support all aspects of environmental assessment(s) and regulatory permitting activities for project developments and mine expansions;
  • Support the development of corporate management system elements and environmental standards within the Alamos Sustainability Performance Management System.
  • Communicate sustainability programs and initiatives to both internal and external stakeholders;
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Indigenous communities across Alamos operations and projects.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships with governments and local communities;
  • Support the development of the Alamos annual ESG report;
  • Manage and track environmental KPIs for the company across all global site locations and the overall business; provide regular updates on performance to management.
  • Identify and actively mitigate potential environmental risks/impacts;
  • Other duties as required.
 
Qualifications
 
Environmental Knowledge and Skills:
 
  • Advanced understanding of the mining industry and applicable regulatory processes.
  • Sound technical background and understanding of a variety of environmental aspects related to mining including: water management, tailings management facilities, waste rock and heap leach facilities throughout the various stages of mineral development.
  • Knowledge of innovative technologies and environmental best practices and how they can cost effectively be applied in an operational setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory permitting, including experience in multiple jurisdictions (Eg. Canada, Ontario, Manitoba, Mexico)
  • Knowledge of other relevant international standards - IFC, World Bank etc.
 
Community and Government Relations
 
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the current regulatory landscape as well as regional, national, and international trends related to Indigenous Rights.
  • Exposure to negotiating and implementing Indigenous community/industry participation agreements
  • Advanced experience in government relations.
  • Ability to build and maintain key internal and external relationships.
 
Experience and Skills:
 
  • Post-secondary degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or a related field;
  • 10 years of mining experience with a focus in environmental management and/or regulatory permitting, community relations and government relations;
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with experience in advising senior management;
  • Strong negotiation skills;
  • Team player with a strong inclination to develop co-operative solutions; and
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of your time.

MILL PLANNER

Reporting to the Mill General Foreman, the Mill Planner is responsible for planning and scheduling mill mechanical maintenance, shut down and project work, collaborating with the Electrical and Mobile Planners, Mill Supervisors, Operators, Millwrights and Process Engineers.

Geologist (Core Logger)

Reporting to the Sr. Exploration Geologist, the Geologist will focus on carrying out exploration programs related to geological mapping, geochemical sampling programs, geophysical surveys and drilling and to ensure service and/or operating standards are met (internally and/or externally).
