Purpose
 
The Drill & Blast Engineer will be well-rounded in OP Mine design and operations. The Drill & Blast Engineer will be responsible for the design and monitoring of efficient and safe mining practices involving drilling & blasting in operations and technical services.
 
Safety and Sustainability Expectations:
 
  • Become familiar with all aspects of the Fatality Risk Management.
  • Be proactive with respect to safety and help design and operate a site that is the safest possible, through input and thoughts shared with others.
  • Conform to the critical control verification process on site.
  • Attain triple zero, both individually and collectively within the pit and engineering group.
  • Identify substandard conditions and practices, during pit tours and take appropriate corrective action.
 
Essential Duties
 
Promoting Safety and Sustainability:
 
  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering drill and blast designs and implementing new designs.
  • Develop plans and designs for regulatory compliance and compliance to Company policies, procedures and standards.
  • Promote and adhere to Company health, safety and environmental policies
 
Drill and Blast Management:
 
  • Responsible for pursuing continuous improvement of established drill and blast practices on-site by optimizing drill patterns, exploring new explosive options, monitoring and reinforcing drill and blast QAQC.
  • Review parameters for controlling for blast vibration and overpressure. Review blast quality and follow up on community feedback. Provide support to Community Engagement Officer.
  • Development and review of Drill & Blast designs in collaboration with short term mine planning team, Geotech team and geology team.
  • Responsible for maintaining Blast Tracking Database with the view of using data to inform improvement practices.
  • Identify and track key performance indicators to drive improvement of fragmentation, dilution performance and overall blast pattern performance.

Training & Experience
 
Leadership Requirements:
 
  • Interacts with department heads, technical services staff, contractors and other company personnel as required
  • Requires good communication skills in order to align Operations and Technical Services personnel on drilling, blasting, planning and scheduling issues.
 
Technical Competence:
 
  • Degree in Mine Engineering (or equivalent) with eligibility for P.Eng. registration with the PEO, may consider Engineer In Training.
  • Four years Mine Engineering experience preferably with strong drill and blast optimization exposure.
  • Previous leadership role would be an asset, not requirement.
  • Moderate to Advanced skills in Deswik.  Ability to visualize and work in 3-D. 
  • Ability to organize workloads and modify priorities in a dynamic fast-paced continuous production environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.

Working Conditions
 
  • This role is located at Hollinger Pit (an open pit mine), part of Newmont's Porcupine mine site located near Timmins, ON.
  • In this role, you will work a 5x2 schedule.  As such, if you do not live near the mine, we will ask you to relocate.

To process, compile and interpret a significant amount of geologic information being generated by the Borden exploration efforts. Work with contractors and work effectively and efficiently within the geology team and with other departments.

Temporary Core Technician

You will Perform a variety of technical duties in assistance to exploration geologists.

Drill and Blast Engineer

The Drill & Blast Engineer will be responsible for the design and monitoring of efficient and safe mining practices involving drilling & blasting in operations and technical services.

Senior Database Analyst

The Senior Database Analyst is in charge of maintaining and further modifying an in-house SQL database for validating, storing, and auditing a large variety of large datasets (Production drilling, exploration drilling, sampling etc.) in support on Mine Geology, and Exploration Geology as well as Mine Operations and Mine Engineering.

Mine Surveyor

This position will be reporting to the Chief Surveyor.  Accountable for prioritizing daily tasks and providing accurate surveys and mark ups to operations and planning group in a timely manner.

Miner 4 Sump Mucker

Operates Scooptram to remove materials from underground sumps, and occasionally help with pump changes. Reports to the Upper Longhole/ Construction Supervisor at Hoyle site.

Production Geologist

Interpret, collect and compile geological information, communicate with and direct underground production crews and provide support for the Mining department, the Engineering department, for underground operations diamond drilling, for reserve/resource calculations and for data management.

Project Controls Director

Senior level position providing mentorship and leadership to definition, development of and adherence to Newmont standards for controls systems, development and policies for multiple studies and programs.

Electrical Planner

As the planner, you develop maintenance plans in order of priority for preventative, shutdown, backlog, and ad-hoc underground maintenance work activities.

Mobile Maintenance Planner

As the planner, you develop maintenance plans in order of priority for preventative, shutdown, backlog, and ad-hoc maintenance underground work activities.
