Northec is seeking an Estimator for their operations in Timmins.

RESPONSIBILITIES
 
The incumbent will be asked to estimate the costs of each public or private project for which the company has decided to respond to a call for tenders and participate in the coordination of the project.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • the estimator must be able to manage a submission from opening to closing:
  • consult the plans and specifications;
  • coordinate tasks with the Project Director;
  • prepare the tender document, the summary schedule, the approximate quantities for the work and for the materials required;
  • discuss: the working methods to be applied, parts of the work to be subcontracted, risks and constraints of the invitation to tender;
  • calculate quantities;
  • establish the work schedule;
  • prepare a preliminary report on the needs and applicable equipment or labor rates;
  • identify whether expert reports are to be carried out on the work site;
  • participate in the mandatory visit and / or customer meeting for relevant information;
  • seek prices from sub-contractors and suppliers;
  • establish the costs associated with the bid and the special conditions;
  • balance the pages of tender sheets with the total quantities, total cost of labor and equipment, materials, suppliers and subcontractors;
  • communicate with owners, subcontractors and suppliers to obtain clarifications of the files;
  • prepare the submission review;
  • ensure the conformity of the documents sent to the client (e.g. final slip);
  • establish lasting contacts with subcontractors, suppliers, etc.
 
REQUIREMENTS
 
  • Degree in Civil/Mining Engineering, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology;
  • Related job experience of 5-10 years in construction project management or estimation, working on heavy civil construction or mining sites;
  • Demonstrated success in project delivery and execution of project management methods;
  • Advanced skills in management, negotiation, communication, and problem solving;
  • Excellent knowledge of Autocad, MS Office, MS Project and Bluebeam;
  • Bilingualism in French and English, considered a strong asset;
  • Valid Driver’s license.
