Purpose:
- Under the supervision of the Senior IT Systems Engineer, provide front-line tech support, on-site and in-person to end users in a fast-paced office environment
- Monitor, prioritize and respond effectively to requests for technical support
- Maintain all computer hardware and software applications for desktops, laptops, and mobile devices
- Be/become the in-house expert on key applications used at the firm
- Provide instruction to end users on how to remedy common issues and assist end users to maximize the use of applications, computers, and network resources
- Maintain network, internet, and cloud security
- Ensure end-user compliance with policies, procedures and processes as defined by the department and/or company
- Monitor and maintain data protection systems and network infrastructure
- Monitor, manage and maintain other infrastructure technologies such as phone systems
Responsibilities:
- Provide on-site in-person help desk support and resolve problems to the end-user’s satisfaction in a professional, prompt and courteous manner. End-user satisfaction at the company is a key measure of successful IT Help Desk support.
- Prioritize IT Help Desk response to end-user questions, issues and problems, and for common issues, effect knowledge transfer in non-technical terms to the end-user
- Perform proactive follow up with end-users on previous questions and service issues to ensure that issues are in fact resolved with lasting solutions
- Document problem resolution, and maintain and update self-help and staff knowledge databases. Document internal procedures and fixes. Proactively develop and conduct training on various applications as per the company’s standardized policies and procedures
- Provide orientation and application instruction to all new and existing users on computers and other technologies, according to the company’s standardized policies and procedures
- Maintain network security, including AD user and Exchange email management, rights access within company applications and at the file level, firewall security, anti-malware and anti-virus protection
- Maintain confidentiality with regard to all information, accessed, processed and stored by end-users on computers, devices and network resources
- Inventory all equipment, software, and software licenses on an on-going basis
- Install and maintain all hardware and application software systems, including new and existing computers, their peripherals, all applications, and all other tools and devices used by end-users at the company
- Proactively test, perform, and document all operating system and application installation and upgrades, and use efficient deployment methods
- Manage and safeguard the company’s data, including backup systems and information flow
- Assist management with suggestions on improving use of existing technologies and recommendations on the implementation of new technologies at the company
- Participate in the hardware and software ordering process, and budget tracking
- Interface when needed with outside service organizations in conjunction with IT support functions
- Proactively work to improve the end-user experience
Minimum Qualifications:
- Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science from an accredited on-site university or college
- Additional professional certifications such as Comptia A+ and Comptia Network+, Microsoft MCP, Cisco CCNA would be considered assets
- Thorough understanding of networking technologies and protocols, and networking technologies as applied in a business/office environment
- 3 to 5 years work experience related to the IT field, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in supporting users in an on-site, in-person face-to-face IT Help Desk role
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent inter-personal skills and ability to effectively communicate/instruct technical information to non-technical personnel
- Excellent troubleshooting skills from issue identification through resolution, instruction and documenting solution
- Proficiency and practical real-world experience with Active Directory, Windows Server 2016/2019, Exchange Server (on-premises & cloud), Windows 10 Pro, Microsoft Office 365 (incl. Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Thorough understanding and experience with various backup technologies
- Thorough understanding of virtualization concepts and with VMWare v6.x or later
- Thorough understanding and experience with client/server architecture over TCP/IP, including Microsoft SQL
- Thorough understanding and experience with technologies and applications relating to internet security, data privacy, virus and malware protection and cloud services
- Proficiency in installing, configuring, and maintaining personal computers, servers, network devices, mobile devices, and all related hardware and software
- Extensive experience and skill at time-management, organization, self-management, and establishing priorities
- Commitment to self-improvement and on-going self-learning in the applied IT skills area
- Ability to work well under authority and as a valued team member, while at the same time possessing the ability to work self-motivated and at times with minimal supervision
- Ability to learn and support new systems and applications
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move equipment and/or supplies up to 25 kg

- The successful candidate will be working out of Timmins office while providing remote support to Day Group’s other locations in Sudbury and Levack.

- Carry out general labouring duties in order to assist both Day Group personnel and the various trades on site, as required.
- Duties may include preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials, cleaning, assembling, lifting, moving, and being directed to offer assistance.
Office Administrative Assistant - Timmins
