Summary
 
To provide field advisory services for customers on existing and/or newly acquired equipment and components.  Advise Metso Minerals’ customers or third party contractors performing maintenance, repairs, and upgrade work on Metso Minerals equipment.
 
To project the image of Metso Minerals as a service oriented company to depend on for competent technical support on mineral processing equipment (including grinding mills, kilns, dryers, crushers, process equipment, etc) for maintenance, repairs, upgrades, and operation.
 
Job Duties and Responsibilites
 
  • Prior to arrival at a field assignment, study, plan, and prepare for field work based on the detailed scope of work, drawings, company procedures, specific instructions, etc.
  • Work in liaison with the various technical support staff within Metso Minerals’ organization.
  • Provide advisory services during installation, checkout, start-up, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate field activity with the customer and/or the customer’s contractor(s).
  • Assist the customer in executing the work to maintain the field schedule.
  • Advise mill or contractor's crew in safely performing maintenance, repairs, and upgrade work.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical problems and assist with corrective action and repairs.
  • Recommend operating and maintenance procedures to insure proper function of equipment.
  • Train customer staff in proper methods to maintain and repair the equipment.
  • Write field reports for submission to the customer and internal departments outlining problems encountered, action(s) taken, and future recommendations.
  • When appropriate, make recommendations to improve field methods and/or efficiency.
  • Submit expense statements according to Metso Minerals' travel policies and procedures.
  • Carry out other service related tasks as a member of Metso Minerals' Service Group as may be requested by the Field Service Manager.
  • Travel (both domestic and international) may be required as needed.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties and/or other special projects as required.
 
Qualifications and Experience 
 
  • Millwright certification or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in field service.
  • Valid Canadian passport.
  • Valid driver license
 
Skills and Abilities
 
  • Ability to lead, plan, and organize field service assignments.
  • Motivated, customer oriented.
  • Good communication skills, mandatory fluency in English, oral and written.
  • Fluency preferred in French, oral and written.
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings in the English and Metric System.
  • Product knowledge of Metso Minerals’ equipment.
  • Adequate computer skills, capable of working with Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes e-mail.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites including for extended periods, up to 70% of the time as may be required to meet customer’s needs.
  • Capable of carrying out duties under pressure with the potential for 16-hour work days.
  • Willingness to respond to field service emergency calls on a 24-hour/7 day basis.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:
 
  • Have all normal physical capabilities including walking, sitting, proper vision, hearing, speaking, and sense of smell.
  • Use extremities to safely and efficiently operate manual tools, power tools.
  • Work safely on stairs, ladders and scaffolding, occasionally at extreme heights.
  • Work in a variety of environments, which may include exposure to extreme heat, humidity.
  • Work safely with proper protection in the presence of fumes or airborne particles.
  • Work safely with proper protection in the presence of toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Work safely with proper protection near elevated noise and/or all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasionally lift articles weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess the stamina to work long hours during emergency breakdowns and peak periods.
  • use office and computer equipment (telephones, copiers, fax, etc.)
