The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs and research centres, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs.

Located on the traditional and unceded territory of the Anishinabé-Algonquin people, near the Kichi Sìbi river, the School of Social Work at the University of Ottawa is accepting applications for one (1) tenure-track position at the rank of assistant. Candidates shall have in-depth knowledge of indigenous issues and realities, a degree and significant experience in social sciences, human sciences or education, and being open to be part of the School in the indigenization and decolonization of its programs. It should be noted that the pedagogical paradigms of the School of Social Work are part of a critical perspective in research and intervention. The School currently offers programs in three cycles in social work as well as a minor in Aging Studies.

Self-Identification Form: In accordance with the University’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan, the selection will be limited to First Nations, Inuit and Métis scholars. Candidates from this group who wish to be considered for this position must complete a self-identification questionnaire.

Duties:

Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels;
Conduct research and publishing activities;
Active participation in the Kinistòtàdimin committee and the indigenization / decolonization process of the School of Social Work;
Supervise Master’s and Ph.D. candidates;
Participate in the University’s academic and administrative activities;
Carry out other activities as specified in the collective agreement.

Qualifications:

In-depth knowledge of the history, realities and needs of communities, ancestral and contemporary values and knowledge of Indigenous people;
Hold a Ph.D. in social sciences (candidates who are close to completing a Ph.D.could be considered);
Candidates who hold a bachelor's, master's or doctorate in Social Work will be favored;
Experience or research in social and community intervention, with Indigenous communities;
Experience or demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research;
Ability to teach in French and English upon hiring, preferable;
Fluency in an Indigenous language considered an important asset.

Bilingualism:

The University of Ottawa is a bilingual institution and all professors in the Faculty of Social Sciences must be actively bilingual in French and in English to obtain tenure. The working language at the School of Social Work is French. The University of Ottawa offers second-language training to staff members and their spouses.

Terms and Salary:

Tenure-track position. Assistant professor salary scale is between $86,986 and $120,306. Tenure-track positions are subject to budgetary approval.
