In partnership with Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd., the Geology Department at Lakehead University is looking to recruit an MSc student to investigate the shear zone hosted gold mineralization of the Eagle River Complex in the Mishibishu greenstone belt, Northern Ontario.
The successful candidate use fundamental geological mapping and logging combined with traditional and state-of-the-art analytical techniques to characterize the mineralization and alteration system associated with the Eagle River Complex gold deposits and the Mishibishu greenstone belt that hosts them. The student will be expected to work closely with the industry partners at Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. Suitable candidates for the MSc opportunities will have a strong background in economic geology and should have completed an Honours degree in Geology. The successful candidates will receive a stipend of up to CAN$25,000 per year for two years as well as a Graduate Assistantship valued at approximately $11,000 per year. Candidates may also be eligible to apply for other competitive grants and scholarships. These projects will start in the summer of 2021 and there is potential for the successful candidates to be employed by Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. for the summer.
The research team is led by Dr. Pete Hollings, an expert on Archean tectonics and mineralization in collaboration geologists at Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate and talented researchers to join our team to unravel the complex petrogenesis of this geologically challenging region.
The Geology Department at Lakehead is a small but dynamic department with six faculty and a strong focus on hard rock geology. The Department offer Undergraduate and Masters degrees in geology and environmental science. Courses offered by the department place a strong emphasis on ‘hands-on’ geology reflecting our location within the Canadian Shield.
