CORE TECHNICIAN

Education/Credentials:
• Grade 12 High School Education or Higher
• Common core diploma an asset
Minimum Years of Relevant Experience: Prior experience in geotechnical logging, prospecting and core cutting would be an asset
Direct Reports to this Role: Project Geologist
Pay rate: Commensurate with applicant’s qualifications and experience
Reporting to the Project Geologist, the Core Technician will support exploration by handing, processing and sampling/cutting of diamond drill core, doing basic labour work and actively supporting field mapping and prospecting programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Move core from the drill to the core shacks, open boxes, arrange in order, and check for block meterage errors.
• Tag hole number and meterage for each box, place core boxes awaiting logging in racks and then bundle box lids for re-use.
• Perform geotechnical logging (measuring, orientating, labelling, SWIR and magnetic susceptibility measurements, take photos etc.)
• Cut and sample core following the protocols established by the Company and inserting QA/QC samples.
• Safely operate channel saw and sampling the cut channel samples following the sampling protocols established by the Company
• Breaking and bagging representative rock samples from rock outcrops based on geological features of interest or as directed by a geologist
• Following the guidelines for assessment work established by the MENDM, collect the required data for grab and channel samples
• Complete cutting logbook/sheet for lab analysis form.
• Store logged and sampled core boxes in the appropriate core racks.
• Deliver samples at the shipping company.
• General maintenance of the site (shovelling/plowing) and equipment (generator, pellet stove etc.)
• Take part in storing pulps and rejects as required.
• Following the guidelines for assessment work established by the MENDM, collect the required data for grab and channel samples
• Store logged and sampled core boxes in the appropriate core racks.

• Assist geologists as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and all other applicable government standards and regulations.
• Comply with Company policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Proficiency with excel and word document software.
• Interest in geology and mine operations.
• Good communication skills, literacy and numeracy skills.
• Good sense of organization and attention to detail.
• Self-motivated and able to work alone.
• Ability to manage repetitive tasks.
• Must be able to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift.
• Valid Drivers License.
• Knowledge of GPS, channel saw and chainsaw operation would be an asset
• First Aid and ATV/UTV certification would be an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
• The role is located at the SPJ Project, which is approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Sudbury, Ontario, Canada.
• Includes outdoor work in sometimes difficult weather conditions.
• Personal outdoor work gear is required (i.e. warm clothing, steel-toed boots, rain gear, etc.) and is not provided by the Company.
• 5:2 schedule – subject to change based on Company’s exploration requirements.
