Senior Geologist

As part of the Glencore Zinc Technical Services (GZTS) team, you will be involved in a variety of Advanced Projects at various stages of study from preliminary Concept level to Feasibility, located mainly in Asia and South America. Reporting to the Principal Geologist – Advanced Projects, the Senior Geologist will primarily assess, review, and implement all aspects of geological work in line with the various study level requirements, as part of the Capital Management Framework. The Senior Geologist will also take part in brownfields exploration program review, optimization, and prioritization to align with corporate short to medium growth requirements. The position is based in Montreal with onsite travel.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide technical leadership for regional teams including review, development and maintenance of best practice technical systems and protocols
  • Contribute to strategic development and improvement of near mine brownfield exploration work as part of the Glencore Life of Asset process
  • Assist sites with geological work proposals, implementation and monitoring of brownfield and resource infill drilling programs
  • Plan and monitor execution of study work jointly with the various sites such as metallurgical sampling, infill drilling, brownfields exploration work, geometallurgical study and other geological work to be performed including robust QAQC processes
  • Assist sites with data collection by implementing and optimizing processes in-line with Glencore standards
  • Contribute to the development of new standards and work methods as part of the group process optimization
  • Geological modelling and model review using various software packages
  • Complete due diligence work, internal and external, including data validation and process review
  • Provide support and expertise to other GZTS groups across various projects as required
  • Provide technical coaching and mentorship for members of the team, willingness to teach others
  • Regular site visits are expected (up to 30% as required)
 
Qualifications:
 
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Geology; Post-graduate degree, an asset.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in near-mine mineral exploration
  • Experience building, assessing and interpretation of complex geological models
  • Excellent understanding of drilling methods and drilling program implementation, both underground and surface
  • Possess a thorough understanding of a variety of geological settings, deposit models, and ore-forming processes
  • Understanding of resource estimation processes
  • An ability to think across scales and to integrate diverse, large datasets
  • A demonstrated commitment to health, safety, environment, and community
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal skills, and well developed sense of work prioritization
  • Self-motivated and possesses leadership abilities
  • Proficient with Leapfrog, GIS, and database management
  • Registered as a Professional Geologist (P.Geo)
  • Knowledge of Spanish and/or Russian is considered an asset
  • Has high cultural intelligence and the ability to work effectively with professionals from all backgrounds
  • Has the ability to develop long-term relationships with team members across different mining jurisdictions.
