Rainy River Mine
 
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
 
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario  The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
 
About The Role
 
Schedule: 14/14 – 12 hour days
Position Reports To: Health and Safety manager
Position Overview
Reporting to the Health and Safety and Security Manager, the successful applicant will be responsible for the implementation of the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS) for the Rainy River Mine site. This role will work closely with the Health and Safety advisors and the document controller to ensure the development, implementation, and diffusion of the HSMS.  This role is a tempoary 1 year contract.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Conducting conformance and compliance audits,
  • Conduct assessments related to Safety Programs, Safety Management Systems,
  • Reviewing and updating initiatives, policies and procedures, and management system program plans in the area of safety, health, to improve their quality, efficiency and effectiveness, and to maintain compliance with Corporate Policy and applicable legislative regulations,
  • Providing technical expertise in developing and delivering critical Safety and Security procedures, process and programs to meet or exceed current best practices and regulatory standards,
  • Ensuring compliance with WSIB HSMS program,
  • Rolling out new procedures,
  • Identifying and developing alternatives and strategic plans to improve the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of Safety and Security Department,
  • Update the Risk registers
  • Supporting the H&S department to ensure conformance to established programs and procedures, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
 
Qualifications
 
  • Diploma in H&S
  • At least 5years experience in a H&S leadership position
  • Strong organization skills
  • Excellent knowledge of HSMS
  • Proven leadership and understanding of human behavior
  • Strong communication skills, including presentations to groups
  • Demonstrated leadership in safety is essential in this role
  • Very good technical writing skills
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Able to bring the team together around the implementation of the HSMS
  • Very good at coordinating multiple documents
  • Very good WORD, Excel and PowerPoint skills
