Job Description
 
Reporting to the SR Consultant, Regional Health & Safety, and acting as a trusted advisor to business partners, this role will support the execution of Purolator’s health and safety program within an assigned geography.
 
  • Adopting the principles of continuous improvement in establishing and maintaining a strong safety culture Actively promote a healthy workplace that is free from workplace violence and harassment
  • Work collaboratively with the Environment, Health and Safety team, and with business partners, to drive an improvement in injury frequency.
  • Educate, consult with and influence management regarding unique safety requirements impacting their decisions, business unit operations, systems and procedures
  • Work directly with unit managers and district managers to implement and maintain health and safety operating procedures
  • Monitor, review and report monthly health and safety performance indicators/measures
  • Facilitate / Lead incident investigations, using our Medgate (Cority) program by conducting assessment and root cause analysis, identification of corrective action, ensuring desired follow-up are achieved and Coach and train front line managers on incident investigations
  • Support Purolator’s return-to-work program
  • Support the external Environment, Health and Safety audit process (identify safety hazards, non-compliance, provide recommendations/programs to mitigate gaps in compliance, etc.)
  • Ensure integration of health and safety measures into all new processes, equipment, and contract work
  • Act as workplace H&S trainers and provide H&S coaching to front line managers to better assign safe work at the pre-shift.
  • Ensure proper record keeping at each of the terminals as relevant to the location
  • Act as facilitators and follow up locally to better capture, track and close out H&S actions
  • Track each Injured Person from the time of injury until the return to full duties (Where applicable). Facilitate local safety walks, document and track close out of actions.
  • Run safety observation and intervention programs
  • Facilitate the role out of the new H&S procedures and standards
  • Participate / facilitate JHA sessions and revisions (Within the H&S committees or independently) Provide technical Safety advice for the local H&S committees.
  • Participate / carry out local H&S inspections
  • Work with the Dangerous Goods and Transportation Safety teams to support their activities
 
Required Qualifications:
 
  • The successful candidate will possess a minimum of a 3 year Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in the field of Occupational Health and Safety (or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience)
  • Be familiar with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canada Labor Code part 2, and Provincial health and safety laws.
  • Has formal training on incident investigation methodologies.
  • Possess Health and Safety training on technical standards (Conveyor safety, Manual Material Handling, PPE, etc)
  • Familiar with Behavioral Based Safety programs and Ergonomic standards.
  • A highly effective health & safety professional with a record of demonstrated accomplishment in supporting an effective health & safety program.
  • Track record of consistently delivering results
  • Understanding of, and experience applying, principles of risk management and loss control Proven ability to effectively influence peers (Unit managers) and frontline workers.
  • Superior organizational skills to plan, monitor and adjust to dynamic operating issues and a rapidly changing environment
  • Willing to aggressively address problems; assume ownership of issues and provide solutions
  • Self-directed and self-motivated, demonstrating a high level of professionalism, ethics, confidence and a commitment to a team approach. Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must set personal ethical standards at a high level and interact with others at equivalent levels within the organization in a manner that instills similar values
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills Ability to travel regionally to facility locations
  • Ability to work outside non-traditional hours (Evenings, weekends, holidays etc)

AM Sorter
  • Unloading and sorting freight
  • Preload up to 5 trucks while pulling assigned freight off conveyor belt
  • Scanning/Cubing/Reweighing
Transportation Engineering Specialist - 12 Month Contract
  • Identify network opportunities, work with a cross functional group to determine appropriate solutions, model alternatives with simulation tools and ensure timely execution.
  • Analyze data to support Network & Capacity Planning, perform predictive analytics, and find network opportunities for improvement.
National Alternate Transportation Network Engineer
  • Project support, assist in equipment layout and design, standards development and auditing, process optimization and statistical analysis, used for development of trending and forecast information
  • Developing, managing and implementing multiple projects providing realistic and accurate timeline, resource requirements and activity plans
Material Handling Equipment Technician
  • Shift coverage of automated sorter system, timely response to system issues.
  • Performing planned / unplanned maintenance duties on automate conveyor system, like Shoe Sorter.
  • Familiar with RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), develop and conduct predictive maintenance program of electrical system/equipment
