Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanical Leader

Key Areas of Responsibility:
 
The Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanical Leader is expected to perform preventative maintenance and repairs as required to surface and underground, mobile and stationary equipment and will be required to perform the following tasks:
 
  • Be a "Leader in Safety" - ensure all work proceeds under safe work conditions, procedures are followed using proper equipment (including personal protective equipment), support is provided to project personnel to "Stop and Correct" unsafe situations and information is passed on, including, near misses so the company can take action to continually improve workplace safety for all
  • Prepare specifications and initiate procurement and properly store adequate inventories of required equipment and parts
  • Consult with Project Superintendent on non-routine repairs, coordinates procedures for scheduled and emergency mechanical maintenance and maintain daily communication of the status of major work being performed
  • Perform daily equipment inspections including greasing and top up of all lubricants and fluids
  • Perform all required preventative maintenance at the required intervals to the manufacturers specifications
  • Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting to identify and resolve mechanical issues
  • Familiar with underground mobile equipment braking regulations/testing and proper maintenance of such components
  • Repair or replace defective parts, components or systems
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure work meets manufacturer specifications
  • Maintain accurate and up to date maintenance reports and documentation
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques
  • Other such duties as may be assigned
 
General Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Ensure full understanding and compliance with company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other local regulatory requirements
  • Have the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment
  • Fully supports and actively participates in the team safety program based on culture and innovation
  • Ensure that any equipment deemed damaged or unsafe by virtue of a defect, or a machine of which any protection system is inoperative, is tagged out and communicated to the supervisor
  • Work closely with other crew members to create and maintain a synergy required to accomplish the shift line-up in the cycle
  • Develop applicable risk assessments, procedures and work standards for all tasks
  • Ensure applicable procedures and work standards for all tasks are understood, adhered to and complied at all time for all such work
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the workplace
  • Utilize all safety systems as specified within the site safety management system
 
Pre-Employment Qualifications: 
 
  • Pre-employment drug, alcohol and medical testing
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Possess a valid Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic Journeyman Certificate or other relevant trade certificate
  • Full Basic Underground Common Core
  • Minimum 3 years of work related experience as a licensed Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic
 
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
 
  • WHMIS
  • Fall Arrest
  • Lifesaver TM-60 (self-rescuer)
  • First Aid Certification
  • Working at Heights
  • Strong Troubleshooting skills
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance
  • Knowledgeable with hydraulic, pneumatic, and DC electrical control systems to a maximum of 50 volts DC
  • Demonstrate organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed
  • Able to effectively prioritize workload to ensure deadlines are met
  • Experience with repairs and preventive maintenance to MacLean Bolters, Scoops', Dump trucks, and Jumbo's considered an asset
  • Experience working with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems is an asset.

  • Ensure all employees have the knowledge to work safely and efficiently by giving all employees job specific instructions on a daily basis and monitor progress
Shaft Miners
  • Concrete Installation
  • Steel Installation
  • Drilling and Blasting
Raise Miner
  • Bolt, screen and install manways
  • Install platform
  • Provide ground support
Project Technician/Construction Surveyor
  • Construction layouts for anchor bolt locations, grid lines, formwork, concrete piers, and footings in an underground environment
  • Surveying and checking for column plumbness with a total station during structural steel erection in an underground environment
  • Layout hanger locations
Field Positions - Hope Bay Project

Cementation is currently engaged in the grouting program as well as long hole drilling and development of ore headings at the Hope Bay Project, which is located in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut.

Millwright

In coordination with other crew members the Millwright is responsible for performing mechanical repairs and routine planned maintenance on a variety of fixed plan installations.

Lead Electrician

The Lead Electrician will be expected to work on the tools to complete the installation and commissioning of conveyor belts, including the services and utilities required for the conveyors, including, but not limited to services (power, fire suppression, controls, etc) required for the conveyors.

Hoist Operator

In coordination with other crew members the Hoist Operator follows job procedures and regulations to perform the assigned tasks.
