About the Position:
 
The successful candidate will be working as a member of the Advanced Vehicle Technology team in our Sudbury facility. This is a fast-moving, multi-disciplinary team deploying cutting edge technology on mobile machines in the underground hard-rock mining industry.
 
Working on a roadmap towards fully autonomous machines, the role will contribute to the design and support of our suite of remote operation and automation systems for MacLean machines. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to be at the centre of a rapidly growing technology sector which is solving very real problems in underground mining.
 
The ideal candidate will have experience in several of the following areas:
 
  • Analog and digital circuit design including communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, UART)
  • PCB layout and design for manufacture
  • Design and specification of 12/24VDC power supply and distribution systems
  • Hardware design utilizing RISC/ARM based microcontrollers (STM32 or similar)
  • Embedded software development (C, C++)
  • Deployment of electronics in harsh environments (temperature, shock/vibration, high humidity)
  • Design of control systems for vehicles and mobile machinery
  • Integration for complex systems in robotic applications
  • Design of safety critical systems to relevant functional safety standards
  • System level design and requirements capture
  • Electrical test including automated hardware in the loop (HIL) testing
  • Design for Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)
 
Typical duties in this role will include:
 
  • Carry out the proper design and selection of components and their integration into the larger system to support the required form, fit and function of the product and to follow applicable standards and regulations
  • Support their designs by working directly alongside production team members during builds and making the necessary updates via Engineering Change Notices (ECN)
  • Communicate with other internal departments such as Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Customer Support
  • Support the Quality objectives of the company
  • Demonstrate leadership and mentorship in the execution of the overall design activities and provide technical oversight to less experienced members to support the goals of the team
 
Essential Qualifications:
 
The successful candidate must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:
 
  • Engineering Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Eligibility for licensing through OACETT or PEO is an asset
  • Experience with one or more PCB design software packages
  • Proficient in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Project, Sharepoint)
  • Experience in shipping and supporting products
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, proficiency in other languages is an asset
  • 5+ years of Electronics Design experience

The successful candidate(s) must be willing to learn, open-minded and flexible, organized and detail oriented, team oriented, disciplined, and must have a positive attitude, along with the following qualifications:
 
  • Engineering Diploma or Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Eligibility for licensing through OACETT or PEO is preferred
  • Preferred experience in the design and / or manufacturing of heavy/mobile/construction type equipment
  • Able to use SolidWorks and AutoCAD with preference for those who have certified training completed
  • Computer proficient in MS Office Software (Word, Excel, Project, Sharepoint)
  • Preference to those who can demonstrate an understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, assembly
  • Able to communicate effectively with others both verbally and in writing with preference for those who can do so in more than one language
  • Must have 5+ years of Electronics Design experience
