Vegetation Ecologist

- Work conducting summer fieldwork for vegetation and wetland programs in British Columbia and Alberta
- You may also support fieldwork for other biophysical disciplines as needed and office work may be required between field shifts
- At minimum a technical diploma or B.Sc. in biological sciences, or equivalent, with emphasis on plant ecology, grassland/range and wetland ecology
- 1-2 seasons of relevant field experience and skills, including plant identification skills with a strong background in grass identification for native and non-native species in wetland and upland communities in prairie, parkland, high elevation alpine ecosystems and boreal landscapes
- Basic GIS skills and understanding with wetlands/vegetation mapping experience is an asset
- Experience with navigation using aerial photographs, satellite imagery and GPS units
- Willingness to work in the field in remote locations for extended periods of time and comfortability working in areas with limited or no cell phone communication
- Physical ability and willingness to access remote and rugged mountain terrain using a helicopter and hiking in remote and rugged mountain terrain
- Previous experience with alpine or back-country mountain experience are considered assets
- A driver’s license and clean drivers abstract
- Training and experience in pulling trailers, driving ATVs, Argos or equivalent are considered a assets
- Valid safety tickets such as Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST), British Columbia Mine Supervisor Certificate or equivalent are beneficial but training will be provided
- Familiarity with Terrestrial Ecosystem Mapping (TEM) in British Columbia and Alberta Water Act, Alberta Wetland Policy and is an asset
