Senior Construction Site Supervisor

• Works closely with the store division on renovation projects in order to ensure that business operations are not affected over the course of a project. Critical thinking and constant communication will be required to make certain that interruptions to the regular function of the store are kept to a minimum.
• Oversees site preparation including land clearing, earth moving, drainage systems, landscaping and road construction.
• Oversees and aids in building construction including excavation, foundations, erection of the structural framework, floors, walls, roofs, and building systems including fire-protection, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and communications.
• At times self-perform a variety of carpentry related tasks (framing, insulation, drywall, painting, flooring, millwork, furniture & fixture installations, etc.).
• Oversees the delivery and use of materials, tools and equipment while monitoring the quality of construction, worker productivity, safety and compliance with building codes, safety codes and other regulations.
• Communicates with the Project Manager providing regular updates relating to progress at the site in addition to any issues/items that arise which may impact the budget, scope or schedule.
• Provides weekly reports to the construction office c/w safety meeting minutes.
• Monitors work on sites where a third-party General Contractor is involved in to ensure that Kal Tire specifications are met.

• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Journeyman/woman Carpenter
• Minimum 5 years commercial construction experience.
• Minimum 5 years supervisory experience supervising mid to large size crews (10 to 25).
• Supervisory experience for construction projects greater than $2,000,000 in value.
• Experience creating a culture of safety on construction sites.

• Able to make decisions and recommendations regarding design and constructability issues.
• Perform site inspections, approve and make suggestions for site instructions and site installations.
• Advanced project management skills including scheduling, resourcing, budget management, job cost accounting, and effectively dealing with change requests.
• Strong people management skills including recruiting, hiring, training, and managing performance for mid to large construction crews.
• Knowledge of the tire industry and more specifically, to Kal Tire operations and general understanding of how buildings components relates to Kal Tire’s day to day operations.
• Strong working knowledge of residential, commercial, and industrial construction terminology and methodologies; detailed understanding of all aspects of Kal Tire’s design standards and specifications.
• Extensive knowledge of commercial construction systems and best practices; detailed construction mathematical skills.
• Knowledge of Architectural, Structural, Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical design and planning principals.
• Working knowledge of federal and provincial building codes / fire codes.
• Ability to read schematics and blueprints and /or technical manuals.
• Promotes and is responsible for the overall Health & Safety of all workers on the job site.

• Certified Red Seal journeyman/woman carpenter.
• Emergency First Aid (Level 1 Equivalent).

• Site based position; willing to travel within Canada for both short and long-term projects (up to 90% of the time).
• Must hold and maintain a valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Willing to work flexible hours in order to accommodate the business operation needs.
• Able to meet the heavy physical activity requirements of the role; work environment requires following strict safety protocol, procedures and legislation.

• Experience within the tire / automotive industry is an asset.
