Based at the Canadian Operations Centre in Timmins, ON, we currently have an exciting opportunity for  a Mine Accountant to join our Finance team reporting to the Mine Controller.  
 
The Mine Accountant will be responsible for maintaining up to date daily financial files, manage the review of actual capital expenditures against budgets/forecasts with departmental managers as well as ensure compliance to all financial controls and being an active contributor to the Finance team.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assist with economic justifications for capital expenditures as required and ensure appropriate documentation and filing of the Authority for Expenditure (AFE) reporting sheets; Prepare reports and provide analysis of variances for key financial and operative parameters;
  • Provide guidelines for standard cost approaches used in business decisions;
  •  Establish and monitor cost reduction programs;
  • Generate weekly equipment reporting and investigate cost saving initiatives, such as doing work in house, contracting out or the advantages of upgrading systems/ equipment;
  • Maintain asset files including updating depreciation numbers with managers, acquisitions and disposals;
  • Utilize SAP to set up vendors, work orders, invoices and review entries as necessary;
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget and interim forecasts;
  • Prepare reports to assist management in understanding departmental costs;
  • Identify and track key performance metrics for the operation;
  • Complete month end bank entries, journal entries, reconciliation, data analysis and recurring accruals.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Our ideal candidate has:
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in a related discipline (Business, Commerce, Accounting, Economics, etc.);
  • Professional accounting designation or working towards designation is required;
  • Three to five years’ of relevant experience;
  • Previous experience of general accounting and working with general ledgers;
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices;
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills;
  • Experience with SAP is considered a strong asset;
  • Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic and growing company;
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize assignments;
  • Strong attention to detail.

ASSAYER 1

The Assayer 1 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

MINE PLANNER/EIT

The Mine Planner/EIT will be responsible for mine planning within the 3 - 6 month planning interval. 

ASSAYER 2

The Assayer 2 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

ASSAYER 3

The Assayer 3 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.
