The Timmins West mine is located approximately 18 kilometres west of Timmins, Ontario, one of the world’s most prolific gold camps. Mineralization is associated with the Porcupine-Destor fault system within the Abitibi greenstone belt. The Timmins West mine is comprised of the Timmins deposit, the Thunder Creek deposit, and the 144 Gap deposit. All three deposits are interconnected by underground drifts.
The Pan American Silver Corp LSG Timmins Operations are a key part of the Company’s portfolio producing gold from two underground mines Bell Creek and Timmins West mined by long-hole mining methodologies. The company is also currently undertaking exploration drilling to further expand its resources and mine life in its current operations and within the proximity to the Timmins mill.
 
Job Description
 
The position of Assistant Controller reports directly to the Director of Finance (Timmins). The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the accounting and accounts payable functions and personnel of LSG. The Senior Cost Accountant, Accounts Payable Supervisor and Financial Accountant report directly to the Assistant Controller.
 
The position will demonstrate the core values and Code of Conduct of LSG.
 
Job Details
 
Location Timmins West Mine, Timmins, Ontario.
Monday to Friday, 8 hour shifts – additional hours may be required on an as needed basis
 
Responsibilities
 
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Assistant Controller will have the following responsibilities:
 
  • Assists in the planning, direction and responsibility for the financial reporting, accounting, data processing and management information systems
  • Oversees daily operations and administrative functions for the Accounting and Accounts Payable Department
  • Effectively supervise accounting and accounts payable personnel, ensuring optimal performance
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining internal controls
  • Assists with the coordination and planning of budget, forecasts and strategic plan preparation for all functional departments
  • Responsible for the preparation, maintenance and reporting of internal and external financial records and analyses and assist with the coordination of internal and external audits
  • Assists with the develop and installation of accounting systems in accordance with corporate policy
  • Provides financial reporting and analysis and cost control services in accordance with company systems and procedures
  • Administers corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure financial and operating reports reflect the condition of the operation and provide accurate and reliable information to assess the operations performance in conjunction with the Director, Finance
  • Liaison with the Corporate Financial team and be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of effective accounting strategies, policies and procedures as per the strategic direction of the Company and legislated governance
  • Financial resource available to help all functional department heads and assist them with their financial information needs including preparation, assistance with interpretation and guiding the financial decision-making process
  • Establish and maintain effective communication within all levels of the company
  • Establishing and maintaining effective business relations with vendors, outside auditors, regulators and professional trade groups
  • Takes responsibility for aspects of occupational health and safety, and environmental matters, over which the individual has control, including adherence to all requirements applicable to LSG
  • Keeps a pulse of the workforce to maintain positive employee attitude and participation
  • Special projects as may be assigned from time to time
 
Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor or master’s degree in accounting or Business
  • Professional designation of CPA (CA, CMA, CGA) required or equivalent experience
  • Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures including IFRS, SOX, and Mining Tax
  • Knowledgeable of government regulations and reporting requirements
  • Direct mining experience is considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable of auditing and IT functions
  • 8 – 10 years of relevant industry experience
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to communicate oral and written with all levels of the Company
  • Excellent computer skills for related hardware and software including Microsoft Office

To construct, troubleshoot, repair and perform scheduled maintenance of all underground electrical systems and underground equipment.
