Department of Chemistry and the Biorefining Research Institute

By Lakehead University

Dead Line: April 30, 2022

Lakehead University, Thunder Bay Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track Research Chair at the Biorefining Research Institute.  The academic rank of the appointment will be commensurate with the qualifications of the successful candidate.

Candidates must have a PhD in Chemistry or a closely-related discipline, a minimum of two years of postdoctoral experience, and a proven record of outstanding research in biorefining. The successful candidate will be expected to develop or continue research on valorizing wood based lignocellulosic materials to generate value-added chemicals and materials that are relevant to industry in Canada. As such, the chair is expected to establish an externally funded research program and to collaborate with industry; relevant industrial experience would be an asset. Applicants must also demonstrate potential for outstanding teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels that complement the needs of the department, i.e., inorganic, bioinorganic, or green chemistry. The appointment will be made in the Department of Chemistry at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Research chairs have reduced teaching and administrative loads but both are still required by the collective agreement.
