The Manager, Automation will lead a team in the design of high-speed, highly automated manufacturing equipment to automate and improve the production, assembly, and packaging of hand and power tools. S/he will be responsible for building out creative and innovative concepts, prototypes, and production builds of automated machines and equipment that improve production efficiencies and quality.
 
This position will be based in Center of Excellence for Automation in Nogales, AZ reporting to the Director, Operations who leads our automation efforts globally.
 
Key Duties & Responsibilities
 
  • Manages multiple automation projects and up to 10 team members aligning human capital and other resources with our overall Automation strategy and key projects
  • Reviews and evaluates current manufacturing, machine, and manual processes with key stakeholders to identify opportunities for the automation or mechanization of processes
  • Creates machine concepts including: pneumatics, hydraulics, servo motors, stepper motors, A/C and D/C motors and controls, PLCs, human machine interfaces (HMIs), and robotics
  • Draws parts, components, and machine designs in CAD software to a tolerance of +/- 0.0005 generating highly detailed mechanical drawings and production prints as necessary
  • Oversees the prototyping and builds of all concepts and production machines assembled at the Center of Excellence, to include final validation and testing before hand-off to Operations
  • Prepares all engineering documentation and specifications required to ensure the successful implementation of assigned projects; verifies correct operation of systems
  • Supports the Capital Allocation Request (CAR) process by estimating new system quotations; may purchase and specify new or existing system components
  • Generates complex assemblies and bills of materials (BOMs) for machine designs
  • Other duties and responsibilities as necessary
 
Qualifications
 
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or an equivalent amount of education and experience; mechanical or electrical engineering discipline preferred
  • 10 years’ experience in machine design with 5 years’ machining experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of Computer Aided Design (CAD) software systems with the ability to generate detailed drawings and production prints; Solidworks, Creo, or AutoCAD preferred
  • Knowledgeable in PLC and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, testing, and start up
  • Understanding of PLC automation programming using various software platforms
  • Knowledge of 110/220/440 singe phase and 3 phase AC power, 12/24 V DC power sources, and in the selection/use of proxy switches, laser optics, photoelectric and vision sensors
  • Proficient in CNC milling and lathe machining operations
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal, and written skills
  • Ability to coordinate large and complex projects independently
  • Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to travel intermittently, at 50-60% for short durations of time during automation conceptualization, evaluation of vendors and their equipment, and in the deployment to production facilities; may require international travel

The Machine Designer will create concepts, design, build, and implement the custom design and automation of machines to aid in production efficiency for our global manufacturing plants. 

Machinist - Nogales, AZ

The Machinist will perform the set-up and operation of Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) equipment, as well as, other conventional machining equipment to produce various components and finished goods.

Team Lead, Maintenance
We are currently seeking a Team Lead, Maintenance to join our distribution center team and lead a team of technicians to conduct routine and complex repair and maintenance of various mechanical and electrical equipment to include powered conveyors, PLC systems, and other production equipment.
