Position Summary:
 
The Corporate Development & Strategy team is responsible for developing strategic business opportunities and plans that contribute towards our corporate growth initiatives. Areas of concentration include, but are not limited to, strategy, strategic planning and Acquisitions & Divestitures.
 
Reporting to the Director, Corporate Development & Strategy, this position plays a key role in managing the development of corporate strategy, long range financial planning and financial modelling. In addition, this role is responsible for ad-hoc analysis, market research, valuation and writing business cases in support of Acquisitions & Divestitures and business development initiatives.
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Work with cross-functional teams including operations, business development, treasury and corporate finance to understand economic, operational and qualitative factors that impact investment decisions.
  • Managing the multi-year strategic planning process and corporate model outlining revenues, costs, capital requirements, impacts to cash flow, per share data, debt metrics and corporate enterprise value etc.
  • Valuation of potential investment opportunities (comparable analysis, precedent transaction analysis, discounted cash flow analysis, financial impact analysis, etc.).
  • Financial project modelling of potential greenfield expansions, Mergers & Acquisitions and divestiture opportunities.
  • Monitoring medium to long-term business trends/outlooks, gathering competitive intelligence to contribute to strategic business planning discussions with leadership.
  • Analysis of external economic conditions and their impact on business operations (e.g., commodity prices, industry activity, inflation, interest rates, exchange rates, etc.).
  • Analysis of internal financial information (e.g., profit loss accounts, financial statements, working capital, costs, prices, expenses, revenues, rates of return, etc.).
  • Contribute to the planning, design and implementation of business plans including recommendation of growth opportunities.
  • Provide complex analyses and market research to support new initiatives.
  • Manage the Merger and Acquisition process including deal origination and prioritization, analysis, valuation, business case development and due diligence.
  • Support the development of corporate strategy, utilizing market and economic conditions to assist in the internal evaluation of existing strategies as well as potential future initiatives.
  • Develop board related material as part of normal course of strategic initiatives progressing or ad hoc, as required.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • University Degree in Business, Science, Engineering, or other relevant post-secondary education.
  • Financial designation (CFA, MBA or currently pursuing a designation) is an asset.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressing work experience in corporate development, strategic or corporate planning experience in a related field (E&P, Energy Services, Industrial/Environmental Services or Investment Banking).
  • Analytical skills for financial and business evaluation opportunities.
  • Excellent presentation, written and oral communication skills with experience in writing board level materials and presenting them.
  • Excellent Office 365 skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Teams.
  • Demonstrated strong research skills.
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) knowledge considered an asset (GeoScout, AccuMap, RS Energy etc.).
