SMS Equipment is seeking a Construction Equipment & Technology Business leader for the role of Manager, SMART Construction to lead the definition and execution of the SMS Smart Construction business growth strategy. Reporting to the Executive Vice President, Technology & Innovation, this position works closely with key SMS management, product experts within OEM organizations and other 3rd party technology suppliers to ensure alignment of the strategy and operational delivery of technology to deliver on defined business growth objectives. The SMART Construction group is part of a larger Technology teams focused on digital transformation solutions in the Construction and Mining industries. 
 
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
 
  • Definition and operational roll-out of the Construction Equipment technology growth strategy and digital transformation initiatives. 
  • Providing direct supervision and mentoring of a team of technical specialists and technology consultants supporting the Smart Construction program
  • Acting as a liaison between SMS branch operations and technology providers
  • Becoming a technical and business product expert in IMC technology, telematics, Machine Health Analytics, drones and 3D mapping, bringing these solutions together into a comprehensive customer SMART Construction program offering
  • Working with the OEM to resolve customer issues and implement product enhancements
  • Developing a growth strategy for Smart Construction and working with regional sales teams to execute the strategy and deliver on profitable growth targets
  • Supporting regions on key account planning and business development activities, such as product demos and customer visits
  • Providing after-sales support on Smart Construction solutions
  • Keeping up to date on new construction technologies and how they can enhance the SMS Smart Construction program
 
Qualifications
 
The successful incumbent will have an Engineering, Industrial IT, Business or Marketing degree, plus 3-5 years’ experience in the heavy equipment industry (or an equivalent combination of education and experience). Other qualifications include:
 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team
  • Experience with customer facing technology for industrial performance improvement, with an emphasis on the construction, mining or transportation sectors
  • Experience in developing technology growth strategies and working collaboratively with Sales to execute the strategy and deliver profitable business growth
  • Ability to liaise with IT and ERP experts to ensure alignment and leverage customer data/machine intelligence
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interface with both customers and OEMs
  • Prior experience executing or managing technology partnership models a definite asset
