MECHANICAL DESIGNER TEAM LEAD

General Description
The Mechanical Design Team Leader is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Mechanical team as well as participating as an active member of the team. The Leader of the Mechanical Design Group will work closely with the Director of Business Development Safety, Pneumatics and Aluminum Profile and will report to the Ontario Technical Manager.
Responsibilities
- To manage multiple projects within the design department from concept to production ensuring projects are delivered on time and budget
- To provide leadership, set standards and provide coaching for a team of Design Engineers
- Demonstrate excellence in Design Engineering skills
- Provide Design, Estimates, Quotes and technical issue resolution via E-Mail, phone and other electronic medium for Robotunits and Jokab mechanical products.
- To develop processes and procedures to support and improve design practices
- Directing activities of Mechanical CAD and Designer support staff as well as use CAD and modeling programs as necessary
- Create and maintain a Project/Activity Database along with a calendar to ensure that all management is aware of projects and quotes
- Maintain a data base for demo equipment and review on a regular basis to ensure they are up to date; rotate when necessary
- Exhibit professional, respectful interaction with customers and other team members
- Approve design reports and quality documentation to Proax’s quality standards
- Ability to meet objectives, through project planning and judgment
- Ensure designs conform to engineering design standards and practices as well as stated specifications
- Understand and evaluate cost, performance and reliability of materials, purchased components and associated processes when incorporating them into designs
- To be responsible for progressing all design and development activities to achieve agreed timing, highlighting any concerns or deviations from plan to the functional lead and relevant project manager in a timely manner to support the discussion and development of recovery strategies
- Keep abreast of new technologies and research new processes and methodologies
- Flexible to adopt other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management
Work experience requirements
- More than 3 years of supervisory experience
- 5 – 7 years related work experience as a Mechanical Designer and Estimator
- Experience of quality management systems
- Experience in the development of database and PC base programming
- Excellent communication (Oral & Written), organization and presentation skills
- Innovative design skills with proficiency in using SolidWorks (or similar) CAD system
- Create 3D models from 2D concepts and drawings
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and mechanical aptitude
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented and organized
Education requirements
- Mechanical Engineering Diploma or Degree
- Excellent computer skills; Proficient in MS Office software, AutoCAD or SolidWorks
Business Development Drives, Motors, MCCs and Power System
