An exciting opportunity has opened up for a HSE Manager to join the team of Mersen Scotland based at our site in Eurocentral near Motherwell. As Health, Safety and Environmental Manager you will be responsible for all activities related to occupational safety and health for our primary and secondary production sites. You will develop and maintain our environmental health and safety program accounting for hazard identification evaluation and control, accident/injury prevention, hazardous material/waste management, emergency preparedness, fire/life safety, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and environmental regulatory compliance. As HSE Manager, you will engage the workforce and inspire a culture of ‘doing the right thing’ with regards to risk management and behavioural choices. Through employee education, participation and the continual development of our safety and environmental management systems you will help drive our desire to prevent incidents, accidents and injuries and to become a business growing and developing in a way that is a benchmark for sustainability.
 
HOW WILL YOU MAKE AN IMPACT:
 
  • Execute the site Health, Safety and Environmental plan whilst continually reviewing and improving.
  • Build relationships with external bodies such as the Health & Safety Executive, Fire & Rescue Services, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA), etc and lead the compliance audits for our ISO14001 and ISO45001 Management System accreditations.
  • Have strong relationships with site and group management to drive and promote the safety culture through strong leadership principles and structured internal safety inspections and audits.
  • Provide health, safety and environmental engagement forums across the sites. Report on current and trending site safety and environmental performance and co-ordinate accident/incident investigations.
  • Manage insurance providers and accident claims and investigations.
  • Communicate KPI’s for all Health, Safety and Environmental metrics, showing trends, improvement plans, and updates to business senior leadership.
  • Routinely visit all departments to provide safety compliance assistance and coaching and assess compliance with applicable safety regulations and company policies.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of safety initiatives, such as site-specific injury reduction plans.
  • Promote a culture that fosters safety first through the implementation of proactive safety initiatives and managing risk to employees through effective leadership and training.
  • Build relationships and influence leaders, Managers, and employees by supporting production activities, resolving incidents, developing and sustaining initiatives and driving continuous improvements focused on health, safety and environmental issues.
  • Collaborate with the Training Manager to develop all Safety, Health and Environmental training.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 
  • Degree qualified in relevant discipline.
  • NEBOSH certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience in dealing all site emissions to air, soil, water and waste and liaising with SEPA.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage and inspire others to comply with Health, Safety & Environmental policies and standards.
  • Able to represent the company in a professional and competent manner.
  • Thorough knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental Legislation, safety standards and methodologies.
  • Strong computer literacy, good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Flexible approach/experience to developing procedures and processes in a fast-changing workplace
  • An understanding of engineering would be an advantage.
