Summary of Position:
 
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Acting Supervisor- Financial Services will support the Finance Branch with key branch activities and supervise, train, develop and support Finance Branch employees.
 
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
 
  • Assist with the preparation of tax season for the MNO Financial branch in February 2021 by helping to prepare the T4, T4a and T2200 forms for all MNO employees
  • Assist the finance branch with fiscal year end procedures
  • Assess both accounting and administrative controls and prepare reports for the management team regarding corporate compliance and internal policies and procedures
  • Facilitate any auditing conducted by third parties to ensure effective resolution and swift closure of auditing activities
  • Ensure organization utilizes ethical accounting practices and standards
  • Investigate variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls, and general accounting; deploy measures to resolve variances
  • Coordinate activities by scheduling work assignments, setting priorities, and delegating work accordingly
  • Analyze variable costs and make budget adjustments as appropriate
  • Coordinate with the Director of Finance to oversee and support all financial activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general accounting, payroll, special projects accounting, financial planning, and reporting
  • Assist the Director of Finance in the preparation of the operating budget
  • Take responsibility for all aspects of the audit function in the organization and develop auditing techniques to meet changing needs
  • Monitor applicable legislation, regulations, policies, procedures, and operations, and ensure compliance
  • Report any and all inconsistencies in corporate strategy in order to improve financial performance and adjust company policy accordingly
  • Ensure that all employees comply with company policies, procedures, and ethical standards
  • Ensure the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal
  • Provide employee training, ensuring that all applicable compliance requirements are met
 
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes:
 
Required
 
  • Strong desire to act in the service of the Métis Citizens, to advance and uphold rights and culture
  • A post-secondary degree or certification in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A high degree of technology literacy and proficiency in standard office equipment
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Superior organization skills and time/priority-management managing others including the design and implementation of project work plans
  • Elevated levels of problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, lead and work effectively with others in a supervisory capacity
  • Demonstrated understanding of policies, processes, practices and documentation used to deliver program services or the Branch mandate
 
Preferred
 
  • Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader indigenous key challenges and programs and services available to address them
  • A post-secondary degree, certification or courses in business, leadership or management
  • Completion of a leadership development program or course
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning

Experience:
 
Required
 
  • Previous 1-2 years or more experience in a Payroll in a leadership role or similar role or comparable experience motivating/leading others
  • Demonstrated experience dealing with personal and confidential information and issues in a mature, tactful and diplomatic manner
  • Demonstrated experience in quickly acquiring and expanding knowledge and being flexible in a demanding and dynamic environment
  • Experience with Great Plains or other accounting software
  • Experience with expense software, Data Basics Preferred
  • Experience with Payroll software- Day Force Preferred
  • Post Secondary Degree in Accounting
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered in leui of above

  • Experience in recruitment, training, discipline, and termination
  • Experience in conflict resolution
 
Assets
 
  • Demonstrated ability to manage project budgets and project or work plan deliverables using project management software or other processes
  • Indigenous not for profit experience in a financial department
 
All positions at the MNO may require the following:
 
1.       Completion and maintenance of Back Ground Check
2.       A reliable vehicle (or ability to rent), driver’s licence, $1,000,000 liability insurance, and a clean driving record
3.       Flexibility to work extended hours as necessary
4.       Ability to occasionally travel within Ontario for limited periods of time
