Based at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Mine Planning Technician Trainee to join our Technical Services team reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent.  
 
Detour Lake is the second largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.
 
The Mine Planning Technician Trainee will be trained in and exposed to a variety of roles within the Technical Services team, including surveying, geology, geotechnical, drill and blast and mine planning. Within those roles they will have a variety of responsibilities, with the goal of assisting with the coordination and optimization of safe and efficient mining operations.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Your responsibilities will include:​​​
 
  • Training and exposure in open pit mine surveying, production geology, geotechnical assessments, drill and blast planning, and mine planning;
  • Conducting daily inspections of general pit operation to observe loading and hauling, dumping areas, drilling activities, and equipment locations, pit walls, berms etc.
  • Coordinating with Mine Supervisors in production equipment allocation to optimize equipment utilization;
  • Define daily and weekly plans and strategy in coordination with all the required departments;
  • Contribute to the development of a positive and collaborative organizational culture;
  • Making recommendations and carrying out decisions on production efficiencies, and other production related projects as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS
 
Our ideal candidate has:
 
  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in mining or civil technology with or equivalent education/training and experience;
  • Experience working at a mining company and the ability to work at a remote site;
  • Experience with CAD design software;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety in the workplace;
  • Positive attitude, motivated, and strong desire to learn.

ASSAYER 1

The Assayer 1 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

MINE PLANNER/EIT

The Mine Planner/EIT will be responsible for mine planning within the 3 - 6 month planning interval. 

ASSAYER 2

The Assayer 2 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.

ASSAYER 3

The Assayer 3 processes Mine Production and Exploration samples for grade control providing vital information in a timely method to assist in key decision making relating to mining/geology activity and reconciling samples entering and exiting the Mill Process.
