Core Logging Geologist

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Core Logging Geologist will focus on the exploration and infill diamond drilling programs at the company’s Eskay Creek and Snip projects in northwestern British Columbia. The ideal candidate will be someone who has practical field experience with precious metals exploration and diamond drilling programs.
This position is seasonal in nature and the duration of the term employment may be anywhere from 2-5 months depending on workloads and drill program needs. Available positions start between April and July 2021.
Position Responsibilities (including but not limited to):
• Work with Skeena’s technical team on the exploration and infill diamond drilling program at Eskay Creek and Snip, including but not limited to monitoring drill progress, core logging, up-to-date plotting, and interpretation of drill cross sections, implementing and monitoring of relevant workflows and procedures (QA/QC etc.).
• Contribute to geological interpretation of the deposit including data compilation, integration, and 3D modelling.
• Prepare daily reports on drill progress with accompanying interpretive cross section.
• Communicate with supervisors on a regular basis and report all material exploration results on a timely basis.
• Promote a safety leadership culture by ensuring that proper safety practices are followed in accordance with Skeena’s health and safety policies.
• Actively seek opportunities to recognize health and safety hazards, resolve safety issues, and work to mitigate associated risks in the workplace.
• Monitor and maintain sampling supplies inventory.
• All other duties related to the role.
The Ideal Candidate:
Academic/Education Requirements:
• Bachelor of Science degree in Geology or Earth Sciences;
• Registered or able to register in a GIT program in B.C.;
• Strong computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint etc.), GIS programs (ArcGIS); experience with Leapfrog Geo and GeoSpark considered an asset.
Required Skills/Experience:
• A Minimum of 2 years of directly related experience is required;
• Mining experience is essential;
• Must have past demonstrated experience in helping build a strong safety culture, as well as awareness of, and adherence to, all required health and safety best practices.
• Class 5 driver’s license is required;
• Valid Worksafe BC Level 1 First Aid certification (or equivalent) is required.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a team environment or individually;
• Practical field experience with exploration and core logging techniques
• Fast learner, motivated, outcome oriented;
• Thorough; with a good eye for error and changes;
• Adaptable to change, ability to operate in less than perfect conditions and with less than perfect information at times;
• Ability to work with minimal guidance (Must be self-directed);
• Must be able to work a rotational schedule in a remote mining camp; and
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
Working Conditions:
This position involves working at a remote exploration site on a general two week on/two week off rotation. The Eskay Creek project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Transportation would be provided from Telegraph Creek, Dease Lake and Iskut as well as charter flights from Vancouver, Kamloops, Prince George, Terrace and Smithers with shuttles from either the Bob Quinn airport or Terrace Airport to Eskay Creek camp facilities.
Prolonged periods of time at a desk working at a computer may be required. There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
