Missanabie Cree First Nation is looking for a “Choose Life Coordinator”. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and delivery of suicide prevention and intervention programs.
 
Qualifications:
 
The successful applicant should have Completed Social Services education or have completed specialized training in a related field or a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a related type of employment. Knowledge of Residential School Syndrome and Intergenerational Trauma would be an asset.
 
The successful candidate should possess the following skills and criteria:
 
  • Knowledge of Jordan’s Principle Funding and NAN suicide pandemic
  • Well organized with time management skills (Event planning an asset)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (Email, Power Point, Word, Excel)
  • Knowledge of Traditional Cree practices and ceremonies
  • Previous experience/knowledge of existing community support, programs and referral procedures
  • CPIC REQUIRED (required upon job offer)
  • Class “G” Drivers’ License
 
Duties/Requirements:
 
  • Collaborate with mental health/wellness workers to host a land based youth camping retreat that include:
  • Workshops
  • Sharing circles
  • Cultural activities
  • Become familiar with MCFN internal staffing for recruiting their assistance in design and implementation of workshops, sharing circles and retreats
  • Connect and work with MCFN Youth Representative and youth of MCFN
  • Assist with setup of a youth Council, include representation from each hub
  • Organize cultural programs to increase protective factors for the youth
  • Develop and implement a workshop based on the true history of Canada, with emphasis on colonization impacts
  • Develop and implement a workshop on making the connection of colonization to mental health, addictions with emphasis on suicidal ideations and acts of suicide attempts
  • Arrange for sharing circles based on the workshops held
  • Coordinate winter solstice to include Elders and Youth
  • Create a roster of workshop assistants and other duties needed in planning and implementation
  • Create a referral protocol with updated list of relevant agencies and contacts
  • Create a user-friendly data-based computer program to track activities and participants
  • Coordinate program delivery to the Choose Life Hub Assistants
  • Participate in team meetings
  • Prepare updates and reports as requested
  • Be available for team meetings when required
  • Other duties as assigned

These positions will work at Island View Camp in Missanabie, These positions will assist with camp duties such as ground maintenance, cutting wood, cleaning cabins as well as the multipurpose, this position will also help with the community garden at Missanabie On.
