Job Description
 
The Edmonton Dispatcher will work within a multi-branch company providing International, Commercial and House Hold Goods services. The Dispatcher will work closely, cooperatively and efficiently with the long distance manager and sales team. The Dispatcher will be responsible for the daily deployment of local crews and equipment in a manner that assures that all service commitments are achieved safely, efficiently and in the best profitable manner possible. The dispatcher will possess (at minimum) a valid class 5 Alberta driver’s license.
 
  • Actively participate in the Health & Safety meetings
  • Obtain and maintain current WHIMIS, TDG and Hours of Service training
  • Ensure drivers are trained to operate equipment in full compliance with DOT regulations
  • Ensure crews have been trained and are qualified for the work they are assigned to perform
  • Ensure that all driving and swamper personnel are wearing not only proper company attire, but also have available to them, necessary PPE as required to perform duties
  • Ensure any and all injuries are reported immediately to Supervisor / Manager 
  • Assist with incident/accident investigations when required
  • Plan manpower and equipment according to the needs of the customers, attaining company expectations of pounds per man, per hour. (Field and warehouse)
  • Schedule resources as far in advance as possible
  • Ensure dispatch information is entered daily and up to date in Moveware – daily dispatch lineup in Moveware diary daily, hours for prior day entered daily into Moveware diary
  • Make daily adjustments to hourly personnel, contractor crews and equipment to maintain cost effective margins 
  • Ensure all required documentation is available prior to service and equally as important, properly and accurately completed after work is completed
  • Occasionally drive to residence (with company vehicle) to conduct quality surveys, coach & counsel and ensure training provided, has value to the customer and company alike
  • Maintain an effectively high level of interpersonal communication with internal and external customers
  • Acquire rental equipment as required
 
Qualifications
 
  • Possess at minimum a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license
  • Complete mandatory online training courses within My Workplace
  • Superior computer skills in terms of Microsoft Office including Word & Excel, Google drive, Email and Moveware
  • Able to read, write and speak English well enough to communicate with internal and external customers
  • Exhibit positive internal and external customer service skills at all times
  • Working knowledge of dispatch operations. Preferably household goods & commercial
  • Strong dispatching analytical and problem solving skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills
  • Cost analysis/Cost reduction skills (Budget control)
  • Detail orientated with strong communication and administrative skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to perform under pressure
