We are searching for an Operations Manager experienced in Environmental and/or Engineering Consulting to manage all aspects of our Victoria office and Vancouver Island region, including office management, team management, business development, and financial management.  The Operations Manager will also handle client requests, directly supervise technical staff in various service areas and be involved in project management.  
 
This position has a remote reporting relationship with the Vice President, British Columbia who is located in our Richmond office.  
 
The successful candidate will:
 
  • Plan and manage the day-to-day running of the Vancouver Island business to ensure sound operations and profitable growth
  • Establish effective client relationships directly with Victoria-based clients and new potential clients 
  • Develop new market opportunities on Vancouver Island and work with leaders in other groups to identify opportunities that span our Practice Lines
  • Provide technical environmental and/or engineering consulting expertise, such as in Hazardous Materials Management, Environmental Due Diligence and Remediation, Occupational Hygiene, Building Science or Mechanical Engineering  
  • Participate in strategy sessions with senior staff
  • Attend professional associations events and provide presentations and/or seminars as required to promote Pinchin’s profile
  • Assume responsibility for the office’s financial performance
  • Develop a business plan for each new fiscal year with a corresponding financial budget
  • Actively participate in staffing the office in collaboration with the Vice President and the Recruitment Department
  • Coordinate group resources, including employee allocation, equipment control and maintenance, vacation scheduling, weekend resources, etc.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to employees
  • Provide a positive and productive team-oriented environment
  • Work with employees to develop and instill goals set in performance planning
  • Perform Project Management duties for select clients and projects, maintaining a personal utilization of at least 40%
 
Qualifications and Attributes:
 
  • A relevant University degree and/or a Professional or Technical designation 
  • 8-10 years of experience in environmental and/or engineering project management and consulting 
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience running a business unit or department
  • At least 5 years’ experience in business development 
  • Extremely motivated with the ability to work independently
  • Professional presentation and strong communication skills (written and verbal) 
  • Strong mentor 
  • Intermediate to advanced level proficiency with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • A valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle (work related travel expenses will be compensated)
