Personal Support Worker Placement Coordinator (Temp)

Cambrian College’s Student Success and Recruitment department requires two temporary part-time Personal Support Worker Placement Coordinators beginning May 2021.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
 
  • Actively generate new clinical placement opportunities through marketing, cold calls, mail-outs, email, employer visits, and follow-up calls.
  • Inform and advise clinical sites of Cambrian’s policies and procedures. 
  • Liaise with placement site and Academic faculty support / Program Coordinators about concerns during the clinical placement.
  • Visit and assist stakeholder sites to evaluate present and future human resources requirements and particularly to generate appropriate placement opportunities. 
  • May participate in clinical liaison meetings, etc. and promote other services offered by the college when requested by supervisor.
  • Organize placement site and student matching process; manage all affiliation agreements including monitoring, renewals, and establishing new agreements in a timely manner to ensure all agreements are in place well before placements commence.
  • Inform students about the clinical placement sites and the applicable requirements. 
  • Participate in program information and orientation sessions, and attends program advisory committee, and departmental/coordinator meetings as required. 
  • Host and attend Placement Coordinator and Program Coordinator meetings to promote effective partnerships and communication.  
  • Develop reporting process in accordance with Ministry requirements and report back to Director and Academic areas.
  • Mediate between clinical sites, Paramed, and students when necessary. Respond to concerns and or situations that arise during placement and liaise between academics, sites, and student stakeholders
  • Establish expectations, track and communicates student eligibility to go out on placements based on Paramed clearance of all established requirements (example, CPIC, Immunizations, CPR etc..) with students, Dean, Director, and program Coordinators.  
  • Coordinate communication between sites, academic Coordinators, and students on all elements of the Placement experience.
 
Qualifications
 
Required:
 
  • Three-year postsecondary diploma or degree in Practical Nursing or Nursing related discipline. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application)
  • Five years of experience in the health care field with a minimum of one year of experience in a long-term care environment.
  • Must exhibit a strong understanding of the long-term care environment with a strong community connection.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise tact and good judgment.
  • Collaborative professional who promotes teamwork and who works cohesively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license is essential to this role.
