Job Description
 
Redpath Mongolia LLC has an immediate opening for a Raisebore Fitter/Mechanic  to join their dynamic team at the Oyu Tolgoi Project in Mongolia.  The site is situated in Southern Mongolia in the heart of the Gobi Desert flatlands.
 
Location: Oyu Tolgoi
 
Rotation: 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off *Due to current Covid-19 travel restrictions, the rotation may be amended. Once covid-19 travel restrictions are eased, you will return to the above roster. Current rotation estimate is 140 days: 3 weeks of quarantine on entry to Mongolia; 11 weeks of work at 14 days on 3 days off; 2 weeks of quarantine when returning to home country; 4 weeks off.
 
Shift Length: 12 hours

Job Description
 
The primary role of the Raisebore Fitter/Mechanic is to direct and participate in the activities with respect to all facets of maintenance and repairs of the raisedrill machinery. This includes drilling sites and workshop maintenance and repairs and breakdowns of any Raisebore equipment and models. Achieving project goals with high regards to Safety, Quality and Production. In addition, the Raisebore Fitter/Mechanic is responsible to mentor and train the National Raisebore mechanics in a safe and professional manor for the various Raise/Boxhole drills and support equipment. The Raisebore Fitter/ Mechanic will be able to work professionally with all parties/colleagues involved both within and outside the Raisebore program. The Fitter/Mechanic will have a thorough basic knowledge of drilling operations also.
 
Roles and Responsibilities:
 
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Monitor inventory of spare parts and supplies and procure items as required to ensure production progresses
  • Accountable for the operational availability of the raise drill, including all aspects of safety, financial, schedule, quality and performance
  • Execute training plans for national employees to become competent raise bore mechanics
  • Report and escalate emerging issues with the Raisebore Superintendent
  • Communicate with the Client at the site as required
  • Prepare and submit reports as required
  • Submit accurate timesheets for processing in a timely manner
  • Operate the assigned raisedrill according to procedure with respect to drilling operation commands etc.
  • Give direction to crew members on the various duties with respect to the safe and efficient operation or maintenance of the raisedrill
  • Connect various components on the raisedrill as required
  • Read and interpret engineering plans to set up the raisedrill and assemble components
  • Perform and/or assist/coach during repairs and maintenance as required/needed
  • Ensure the maintenance of a clean work site, storage of materials and spare parts
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Perform emergency repairs to equipment as required
  • To note any information that has or may affect the safety of equipment, i.e. log books, check sheets, etc.
  • To report any irregular circumstances or conditions related to his area of responsibility
  • To accurately fill out any preventative maintenance check sheet related to his work, i.e., work order, warehouse withdrawal slips
  • Must assist other tradesmen when assigned by his supervisor
  • To be able to make decisions related to his workplace or equipment
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and limit equipment damage
  • Must have skills to help train new employees, apprentices, etc., in the area on day to day operations plus on the procedures for operating equipment
  • Perform diagnostic testing to identify problems and determine the solution to solve the problem

Required Skills and Qualifications:
 
Education:
 
  • Journeyman level qualification (trade school or college diploma) Mechanic/Fitter
  • Cert 3 or trade qualified certificate or its equivalent, in either Mechanical and/or Fitting and Turning qualification
  • Preferred: Working on heavy machinery, most favorable to Raisedrills
 
Work Experience:
 
Minimum 2 years experience in maintaining/repairing various classes of Raisedrills or minimum of 3 years experience for maintenance/repairs for heavy mining equipment
 
Knowledge Required:
 
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Must be able to communicate in a knowledgeable, professional manner, both written and verbally
  • Ability to adjust raisedrill parameters
  • Extensive knowledge of various classes of Raisedrills
  • Knowledge of Raisebore drill operations
  • Knowledge of drilling machinery
  • Knowledge of mining industry
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical systems
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to do perform routine maintenance/repairs on machines
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment
  • Ability to multi task and work effectively
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
