Position Summary
 
The regional director of engineering drives the short-term/long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the Engineering department, the IT department and the Security department by developing and implementing strategies for proper operation and maintenance of the hotel (primary hotel). In addition, the role supports the engineering leadership at other Managed Hotels in the region as it pertains to capital expenditures, facility management, subject matter expertise and other duties as assigned (regional hotels).  
 
Key Responsibilities
 
Responsibility #1 (20%):  Budget Management
 
  • Develop and implement strategies for the hotel’s Engineering department that support the achievement of the hotel’s goals
  • Monitor status regularly and adjust strategies as appropriate
  • Develop the annual engineering budget in conjunction with the Executive Committee
  • Continually improve hotel Engineering department and adhere to the Managed Hotels and brand standards
 
Responsibility #2 (50%):  Project Management
 
  • Manage the Engineering department and third party vendors to ensure superior service and quality. Also, manage the IT infrastructure at the hotel and the management and supervision of the Security department.
  • Develop and implement quality control programs
  • Review contracts and negotiate revisions to contractual agreements with vendors, consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Interpret plans and contract terms with the Engineering team, management, clients, and vendors
  • Monitor compliance with building safety codes, health and safety laws and other regulations, conduct walk-throughs to assess the safety and efficiency of equipment and maintenance of structure
  • Maintain Responsible Business programs and training for hotel
  • Manage hotel renovations, coordinate project status with Corporate Technical Services, architects, licensing agencies, contractors and hotel management
 
Responsibility #3 (10%):  Staff Development
 
  • Provide employees with the orientation and training needed to understand expectations and perform job responsibilities
  • Communicate performance expectations and provide employees with on-going feedback
  • Provide employees with coaching and counseling as needed to achieve performance objectives and reach their fullest potential
  • Drive employee engagement through the creation and implementation of departmental action plans
 
Responsibility #3 (20%):  Regional Support
 
  • Assist in the development of strategies for area hotels’ Engineering departments that support the achievement of the hotels’ goals
  • Provide counsel on engineering related budgetary items
  • Consult on the development of engineering related quality control programs
  • Coordinate with the hotels during hotel repairs and renovations, namely facilitating the use of Corporate Technical Services, architects, licensing agencies, contractors and hotel management, as applicable
  • Provide hotel engineering leadership with coaching and counseling as needed to achieve facility performance objectives and reach their fullest potential
  • Determine scope for capital improvements and/or repairs
  • Aid in soliciting vendors for projects
 
Requirements/Skills
 
  • Minimum of ten years work experience in engineering, construction, facility maintenance or related work
  • Minimum of five years work experience in the hotel industry in Engineering management
  • Minimum of two years experience at an upper upscale brand property within the past five years
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Able to resolve conflicts guests, supervisor and employee
  • Able to collaborate effectively with other hotel employees and managers to ensure teamwork
  • Advanced knowledge of building management and engineering
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • General understanding of insurance requirements
  • Experience working in a union environment
  • Experience working with Managed Hotels preferred
 
Physical Demands
 
  • Sitting for extended period of time
  • Some moderating lifting may be required
  • Good manual dexterity to assist with maintenance if needed and use of common office equipment
