About the Role
 
  • Demonstrate and embed alignment with Our Requirements of HSE, Charter Values and Code of Conduct. Applies an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. 
  • Manages the interface with global health and safety initiatives and ensures Our Requirements are incorporated into project processes.
  • Engages and supports contract owners in alignment with Contractor Management Framework and Integrated Contractor Management requirements as well as legal requirements.
  • Oversee that actions associated with the Fatality Elimination Program have been verified and completed. 
  • Manage key contracts related to Safety, Security and Emergency Response in the Contract Owner scope.
  • Develops and implements cross-functional improvement initiatives for security management to enhance organizational capability in responding to security threats.
  • Supports Jansen Potash leadership team in risk management related to strategic decisions in planning and execution. Analyses and provides expertise to leadership on how to improve the quality of safety risk assessments, controls and investigations, with a focus on sharing lessons learned from past events.
  • Analyses leading and lagging performance trends and develops appropriate response plans for the Jansen Potash leadership team to improve safety compliance and outcomes.
  • Provides specialist/functional expertise and coaching to the Jansen Potash leadership team to implement the Potash HSE Strategy and drive a strong safety culture.
  • Directs and implements improvements to injury management and workers compensation activities/processes to optimize the services provided to injured workers.
  • Designs and implements improvements to health related systems, processes and resources to optimise their compliance and effectiveness.
 
About the Role Cont.
 
  • Provides specialist/functional expertise to the Jansen/Potash leadership team on health related programs/initiatives/controls (e.g., mental health programs) to embed measures that create a strong health and wellbeing culture.
  • Provide specialist/functional expertise to leadership on hygiene related programs/initiatives/control to mitigate hygiene risks and enable compliance with HSE and statuary requirements. 
  • Implement health and safety components of the HSE Management Plan and deploy resources to implement assurance activities and agreed health and safety initiatives
  • Maintain relationships with regulatory and other external stakeholders
  • Coordinate EMT related activities and exercises and continually improve Crisis and Emergency Management Plans from any lessons learnt.
  • Manage operational readiness activities relevant to health and safety
  • Manage a team of 10 to 12 direct reports
 
About You
 
  • Substantial Health and Safety operational experience (10-15 minimum years), preferably in the Mining Industry or similar environment.
  • Professional that has guided developed and influenced practice in the health and safety area with experience in a relevant industry.
  • Requires detailed knowledge of key concepts, theories and practices related to effective control of health and safety related risks.
  • Demonstrated capability to influence / agree solutions with internal and external stakeholders at senior management level
  • Demonstrated direct supervisory experience leading teams
  • Proven contribution to establishing work plans and managing the delivery of those plans via effective leadership and management of human and physical resources.
  • Demonstrated experience in analysis and improvement of risk control strategies, including experience with deploying major change initiatives.
  • Degree or diploma in Health and Safety Management, Risk Management, Engineering or a related field, or extensive experience in the industry
