POSITION SCOPE

 

Reporting directly to the Assistant Controller, the Senior Accountant will provide guidance to the Company on accounting policies and technical accounting analysis, ensure public reporting documents are compliant with IFRS and regulatory requirements, and lead some quarterly reporting and disclosure processes.

DURATION
 

The Senior Accountant will also partner with New Gold’s operations to provide accurate and timely reporting to senior management.

 

This position is permanent.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

• Participate in the preparation of the MD&A, Financial Statements and Notes;

• Manage the effective and timely delivery of the monthly consolidation process;

• Research and provide up-to-date guidance on accounting issues to the Corporate Office and to our sites;

• Carry out day-to-day corporate accounting functions, such as reviewing GL reconciliations, continuity schedules and journal entries prepared by the Accountant, in order to ensure a timely close of month-ends and reporting periods;

• Provide assistance and support to the external auditors; and

• Participate in special projects when required, such as ad-hoc and value-added financial analysis.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

 

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Finance or Accounting coupled with a recognized Canadian professional accounting designation (CPA) is essential;

• CPA, with at least 2 years post qualification experience, preferably within the mining industry, with exposure to public company reporting and multi-currency/multi-jurisdiction environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

 

• Strong technical and disclosure Knowledge of IFRS combined with experience dealing with complex accounting issues;

• Excellent written and verbal communications skills;

• Interpersonal skills, enabling successful collaboration with a cross-section of teams;

• Excellent analytical, organizational, and comprehension abilities as well as great attention to detail;

• Ability to work under time pressure and balance multiple priorities with grace and good humour;

• Proficiency with MS Office, with in-depth knowledge of Excel and Power Point, proficiency in SAP and consolidation software packages an asset.
