PURPOSE & SCOPE OF THE POSITION:
 
The purpose of this role will be reporting to the Human Resources Manager and working closely with the HR team, external benefit and 401(K) plan consultants. The Senior Benefits Specialist will be responsible for the delivery of key medical, dental, vision, STD, LTD, Life Insurance, wellness benefits and 401 (K) plan administration duties including plan member enrollments, communication, employee changes, terminations and issue resolution in the US. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the Site HR in the delivery of the US benefits and 401 (K) plan initiatives. This role will support the delivery of the site HR’s strategic objectives in a way that is action oriented, value added and in line with our core values of Zero Harm, Success Through Teamwork, Results Driven, Courageous and Accountability.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES/JOB DUTIES:
 
Perform benefits administration duties for US employees including: onboarding, enrollment, benefit changes, open enrollments and terminations.
Support HR team members in the annual benefits renewal along with external benefits consultant.
Be the point of contact for all benefits and 401 (K) plan related inquiries and work with partners for quick problem resolutions.
Prepare annual benefit budgeting with HR Manager, complete monthly billing and do benefit reconciliations.
Perform 401 (K) plan administration duties for US employees: onboarding and enrollment, employee/employer contributions, beneficiary changes, withdrawals and loans, communications, inquiries and general support.
Participate in quarterly benefits committee meetings to review benefits claims experience, cost management strategies and loss ratios.
Participate in quarterly 401 (K) plan committee meetings to review fund performance, plan member behavior and plan member education/communication goals.
Help with the annual 401 (K) plan audit and form 5500 filing.
Complete benefits related compliance documents (i.e. Form 1095-C and Medicare Part D Notices)
Provide employees with benefits and 401 (K) plan communications, documents, provider and consultant contact information on a regular basis as requested by employees.
 
Perform other duties as requested
 
QUALIFICATIONS:  
Previous Related Work Experience Required
 
8 years’ experience in Human Resources focusing in self-insured benefit plans, 401 (K) plans and HRIS.
Knowledge of applicable benefits and 401 (K) plan laws regulations in the US.
Experience with JDE HR or other HR/Payroll systems is required
Experience in mining industry preferred but not required.
 
Education Required
 
Undergraduate degree or college diploma in Psychology, business, Human Resources Management, or a related are preferred.
Certification Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS) or Certified Benefit Professional (CBP) considered an asset.

Special Equipment/Computer Knowledge Required
 
Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint required.
