The Senior Mining Engineer takes part in the development of economic studies of mining projects (approach, prefeasibility, feasibility). The incumbent provides expertise and support to operations for major projects or in specialized fields. This person manages development and mining construction and contribute to the continuous improvement of work methods.
 
Role Details
 
Take part in the development of economic studies of mining projects.
 
  • Use advanced knowledge to assist the manager in the technical and economic analysis of mining projects.
  • Assist the manager and operations in the development of expansion projects or significant capital expenditures.
  • Participate in project evaluation with the goal of acquiring such projects.
  • Assess the most appropriate mining methods to identify improvement opportunities. Find solutions to technical challenges in some projects. Suggest new approaches.
  • Develop mining plans. Plan excavations and mining infrastructure.
  • Proficient with planning and design software to properly assess the work requirements of projects.
  • Coach and provide advice to less experienced employees.
  • Liaise with project teams at the sites.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 
Provide expertise and support to operations in specialized fields.
 
  • Assist operations on technical problems in specialized fields.
  • Prepare written reports and documents relating to technical issues, various programs, and systems in place or to be implemented.
  • Conduct research to support decision-making and improve processes, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Perform internal audits in specialized fields.
  • Prepare reports and follow up on these reports to ensure compliance with company and industry requirements.
  • Help monitor engineering standards and technological developments.
 
Participate in the continuous improvement of work methods.
 
  • Keep abreast of trends in mine design and incorporate this information in projects and approaches to working.
  • Propose new approaches to optimize performance and ensure compliance to industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Delegate duties to less experienced employees, coach and act in an advisory capacity in complex situations.
  • Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
 
Regular working conditions and office hours; frequent travels to the sites, 25% to 30% of the time.
 
Qualifications
 
What You Need to Succeed 
 
  • University degree in mining engineering or equivalent.
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec.
  • 10 years of relevant work experience at mining sites or as a consultant.
  • Experience in open pit mining.
  • Experience in mine planning.
  • Mastery of both official languages (French and English).
  • Good knowledge of mine planning and engineering.
  • Good knowledge of health & safety and environment.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently both orally and in writing with internal and external resources and to work with personnel of all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent organizational skill and attention to details.
  • Ability to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with others in a teamwork environment.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize job duties.
  • Ability to have pleasant and courteous interactions.
