Thyssen Mining is a full-service underground mining contractor with several projects currently underway in Canada and the USA. Thyssen currently has a vacancy for a Senior QC Engineer at a project in Lead, South Dakota.
With limited supervision the Senior QC Engineer will support and cross-shift with the Quality Control Manager. The field work will occur at various locations on the project and will require working closely with our Engineering and underground operational teams in a dynamic work environment which requires you to roll up your sleeves and think on your feet. Our ideal candidate has a strong mining and/or civil construction interest with a desire for supervision of engineers and analysis and reporting of quality data. Our candidate must have at least 10 years of QA/QC hard rock excavation experience in a mining or heavy civil environment. The position is expected to work a minimum 10-hour shift on a fixed rotation (2 weeks on: 1 week off).
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering, geological engineering, mining engineering or construction management.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in hard rock mining and/or heavy civil construction; at least 10 years of which has been focused on QA and/or QC; a solid understanding of geomechanics, ground control instrumentation, and rock support methods.
• Industrial/heavy civil/mining/construction/commissioning project experience is advantageous.
• Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat and AutoCAD.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written skills.
• Able to gain knowledge and understanding of organization’s operations, policies and procedures.
• Organized and efficient as well as having a methodical approach to work practices with strong emphasis on quality; ability to prioritize multiple daily tasks.
• Team player with the ability to work independently to meet daily deadlines, goals and objectives.
• Ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects, demands and deadlines.
• Client (internal and external) -focused with a passion for ensuring the highest level of quality.
• Highly motivated, with a demonstrated desire for excellence and taking initiative.

• Good physical condition; ability to stoop, sit, stand, lift, or be on feet in an underground mining environment for extended periods of time.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
